ok my friend was driving on the highway and his oil pressure light came on and then the engine shut off. it all happened instatly.there was no grinding or any noises. come to find out the oil filter shaft backed out of the housing. we need to know if there is a sensor that senses no oil pressure and shuts off the car or he ceased his oil pump or what. there is no oil pumping, cause we added oil and it didnt move on the stick and the engine will start, there is no resistance when the car is cranked over(no compression). maybe the balance shaft actually went out im not sure. this is in a basicly stock gst. how would i go about diagnosing this. im shure the rings are bad cause we pulled the head and there was some light scuff marks, but did not have grooves deep enough to feel. thank you for the help

Your post is kind of confusing. You add oil and it doesn't show up on the dipstick? How much oil did you add? Does the car still run? Did you remove the head before or after this happened? Did you make sure all of the timing marks line up?

There is a sensor that is attached to the oil filter bracket. It's a small black bell shaped sensor that has a wire coming off of it. Unfortunately, it only tells you that you have pressure. It does not shut off the motor for you. Could be that the wire fell off and it thought you didn't have any oil pressure. If the heads are off, you could always hook up a 14mm drill to the oil pump and "pump" oil through the block. (I'm assuming the front cover is still on.)

sorry i t was a long day. what i meant to say is we added oil to the engine, turned it over and the oil level didnt fall like it should have . it had no oil at all at first, ran completely out and then car died. and by the way the engine wouldnt start(correction). im gonna test the oil pump as soon as i get a day off. and yes the head is off.
