ok Ive got a 90 GSX and the timing belt slipped so I pulled the head and had it check to all suprise No bent valves. So I had the head levled and put it back on the car torqued everything to spec and set the timming and now when I crank it up theres a loud tapping. I done a compression check everythings fine.I have good oil pressure so I dont think its a bearing.I put everthing back together and drove it down my driveway and it wouldnt get above 15 mph at the end of my driveway it died and I ended up pushing it back.the car will crank and run but it has a jerking while at idel. what can this stuff be I cant figure it out . HELP PLEASE

Did anyone mess with the cams, springs or rockers. etc...
They had to disassemble the head to mill it

First off check your timing. If that checks out ok, pull the vc(as mentioned in an earlier post) and take a look at the valvetrain. Check for colapsed lifters, loose caps(or misaligned caps). It honestly sounds like bad timing to me, keep us posted.

OK I had a friend of mine come over and help me with the timing. He has the same car as I do but built. all the timing is right but I got to talking to another guy and he said to check and see if the lifters would press together and pump back up and if they didnt I needed ne lifters. Is that true or could I squeeze the old oil out and clean them.

ok cant be the water pump it wasnt running cause the belt wasnt around it untill a little later than when I first started it.then I ut the belt on before I took it down my driveway

They came in the 4 cylinder 3g eclipses.

No. They are the 3rd revision of lifters for the dsm 4G63T. The "3g" has nothing to do with the 3g Eclipse.

Get a mechanics stethescope to verify the location of the noise. Does it come from the head? No power and tapping hmmmm. What are the actual compression numbers? I've also seen carbon come loose and make a terrible noise until it works through. If you are absolutely sure your timing belt is not the issue and are pounding little dents in the pistons with the valves, then it could perhaps be lifters. One almost has to hear the noise to verify the type of noise. As we can't hear it, it's a little difficult to help diagnose it.

Like I said, get a stethescope and try to pinpoint the location. If that fails, I would for sure take it to a good Mitsu tech to get his opinion before you really damage something else.

Good luck
