Since the new build i noticed the factory oil pressure gauge reads low when the car is cold starting up, then goes to zero until you boost then it reads low, the car has plenty of oil and none of it is disappearing and it doesn't over heat or make any funny noises, i did drop the sender unit on the garage floor before putting it in, and it wasn't the one that was in the car either. If i has no oil pressure would my car drive good and boost? or would it fall on its face, i think i just need to put an after market oil psi gauge in. The car has had 2 episodes of randomly sputtering during cruising at like 30 mph but it is also untuned, any input would be great, thanks!

The first thing would be to stop driving it until you verify that it has pressure. I would either get a new pressure sensor (the big round one) or an aftermarket gauge.

Get an aftermarket gauge so you really know what the oil pressure is. Until then I would also recommend trying not to drive the car. Cause if you really don't have oil pressure then your bearings will be toast.

Ok i just installed an autometer short sweep electrical oil psi guage and started the car i immediatly get 25-30 psi pressure during idle on a slightly cold start , its bout 55 degrees out here, and i have idle surge in the oil psi guage fluctuates with the surge so i would say im good? I didint drive the car yet but were the factory gauge would read almost nothing, the autometer reads 25-30 on a colder idle , does that sound right? Also the car hasnt lost any oil, its spot on were it should be

The car was ran 2 hours prior to when i just started it, so the motor was not fully cold i guess or does a 4g63t's oil and motor cool completly in 2 hours, im still a noob LOL im running 10-w30 non synth

in two hours i wouldn't expect it to be fully cooled off. whats the oil pressure once its at operating temps? and where are you getting the oil pressure source from?

Pressure from turbo oil feed line its on a t fitting from the forward facing oil filter housing, i wasnt able to run the car long, due to the noise level from the exuast pissing of my neighbors but i will run it in the morning

oh okay i see. on cold starts i would have something like 60-70 psi (around 60-70 degrees outside), but my balance shafts are deleted.

your idle should be about 12 psi at idle (operating temps) and 10 psi for every 1k rpms.

Ok i also have my b shafts deleted, so its actually about 40 out here, but the car wasnt completly cold i was getting 30 psi at 2000 rpms (idle is wild when you first start, then it comes down, and im goingto run the car this morning and see hoe she reacts

I actually didnt realiza how short of a sweep the guage was, i just started it again, and it spiked 50 psi at first, then sat at 30, then as the idle surge went from 1500 to 2000 rpms i was at 25- 30 psi

Ok so this morning, i started thr car, its about 50 out, i had 50-60 psi cold start, at cold idle i had 25-30 psi, at warm idle i has 12-15 psi, and thr car seemed to gain 10-12 psi of oil pressure for every 1000 rpms, i.e. 4000 rpms, 50 psi oil pressure, does that sound about right?

i guess all these cars gauges are like that. i was just thinking about it a day ago is it loos low but i dont think its anything to worry about. and it also shows why my buddys ballance shaft removed 4g63 has high oil pressure. god i love this site!
