how's everyone doing? just bought myself a 1991 Talon TSI....and i have a big question...it seems like it dosent really have any low end power? it takes a while to pick up speed, not to mention i cant get it to burn out...is this common to all stock TSI, or is something wrong with mine?

okay, so no burnouts.

but what about the seeming lack of quick-reponse that i would think comes with a turbo? i mean i havent had a chance to really drive it yet (due to the lack of license plates), but it dosent feel like it picks up all that much faster then my N/T in first or second gears...would this be like a boost leak or something?

Check your exhaust manifold for cracks. If it is cracked, the exhaust leaks will cause the turbo tho spool up slower than normal. :talon:

thanks! mine does have a nasty crack in it.. a new exhaust manifold is going to be the first thing i buy then...

speaking of which, i have a question.

is the EVO III exhaust manifold a good upgrade for $200? or should i wait and spend more on one of the others?

I would buy an EVO over the other manifolds because it isnt that much more and it is proven to be better than a 2G stock for stock. Slowboy also now makes there own, but I havent seen much about it or known anyone to have one on there car so I cant say much about it. DNP makes a nice tubular header, but its expensive and is more bling than performance. If you dont mind the price and like the looks then go for that one.

well not really, u can get that 4 to take off rather nice. it may need to do some serious work on it tho. first off its a '91, thats a concern. replacing the small hoses, lines and junk should be a first step. older stuff leaks, cracks, leads to loss of pressure and such. getting all that under control would be marvelous for you. the transmission might need work also. check for vacuum leaks everywhere, stuff like that will lead to powerloss. u already got one problem pegged down with the exhaust. make sure theres no more leaks in the other parts of it. this really sounds like its a maintenance thing first, upgrades later. how is the internals on that car? maybe chaning to a set of more agressive cam shafts, cam gears and some pulleys will help you out with that. adjust timing accordingly. dont forget the valvetrain, etc. maybe the other internals? crank maybe? but do check that tranny. you can do some smaller things, like port and polish everything, port match it all. o2 sensor housing too. that should help you out some. make sure u are using good fluids also, its a factor. give that a go, see see what happens. if ur car's a manual u can prolly do an all wheel peel, but its not good on the tranny, u can rev the hell out of it and dump the clutch at lik4 thousand rpm, im not saying to do it, im saying it might peel, but its horrid on the moving parts of it.

thanks again!!

another question about the EVO III, it matches up to the engine correctly or do i need to do any alterations to make it fit?

going to start replacing those hoses!!

great, replace the old stuff, try for gaskets and bushings, stuff like that. it doesnt seem like much, but after its all done it really adds up, ya know? see if u can get urself an engine rebuild kit. it comes with a wide selection of smaller things that break down overtime, clean it all up real nice while u have it all open. it'll ride a lot smoother and better. :thumb:
