i met a guy with a gst today, he said he had a big16g on his motor. so i wanted to take a look at it..so he poped the hood and i seen no J-pipe..... maybe its just me but i thought all Mitsubishi turbos had a J-pipe. it looked more like a t25 or t28.. he said he was running 20psi and i know for a fact a t25 wont push that much. a t28 might.. idk. he had the heat shield on so i couldn't inspect to much.. and it was EXTREMELY HOT! from driving so i didn't want to poke around to much. what do you guys think?

That's because he's a d o u ch, and really had a t25. He "said" it runs 20psi . . .

BTW, with the boost signal removed, a t25 will see 30psi the fall back to 12 by redline. That has nothing to do with the flow of a 16g or any turbo larger than a t25.

ya the LICP was at the bottom of the compressor housing. and hes not a d bag.. he just dont know what the hell hes talking about.. LOL

I think the 16g is the DSM version of the "T3/T4" of the Honda Civic world.

Every damn boosted Civic owner has a "T3/T4" turbo, which doesn't say a whole lot about the turbo characteristics itself. And almost every wanna-be DSMer says his car has a 16g, and it's "really really fast" and they run "20 psi" and the car runs "10s."

And then when I get asked what turbo I have, the Civic owners always ask if it's a T3/T4.

*sigh*

I suppose you could theoretically clock a 16g compressor housing to be sorta-downfiring, but you'd still need the bolt-on pipe and have to modify it to work with whatever intercooler setup the car has. But that would just be dumb.

o and if hes runing 20psi+ he should be in the low 13s high 12s maby if he got good hook.. he said he ran a 14.50 or some thing... with my blown t25 i can run a frekin 14.50

He knows whether or not he had a 16g installed. No one buys a t28 without knowing what the he!! it's called. So he knows enough to be a d o uch. He knows you may not be sure and knows that 16gs are successful. See Mr. Boxx's post.

So. . .

1) clearly it's not a t28. No one pays that much for a turbo and doesn't know what it is.
2) it can't be a 16g since it has no j-pipe. Unless its a hahn turbo. If it had the stock heat shield and/or the stock style exhaust manifold (1g/2g/evo3), then no it's not a hahn 16g.

So unless someone sold him the car saying what was in it and he's carrying the torch of idiocy on to you, he's lying.

Theres a few sellers on ebay that sell 16g compressor covers that face downward.

Again scoobie turbos and other 16g turbos with downfiring compressors (just looked at EVERY page on the ebay search "16g turbo": hahn/obx/evo10) dont apply since they dont have the typical MHI turbine inlet bolt pattern we use. UNLESS the op's buddy has a non-mhi exhaust manifold. Which that question hasn't been answered yet.

OP, if he said 16g with a sh!t eatting grin then he's messing with you and it clearly has much more under the housings.

Only other option, he found a GREAT deal on a t3 inlet 16g and used an adapter plate.

well.. for 1.. no ones carrying the torch of idiocy on to me.. i told him it wasn't a 16g within 2 seconds of seeing it. 2. he did buy it from some one and they may have told him its a 16g. but were getting off the subject here.. i just wanted to know if there is such a 16g with no j pipe. as well as the downward facing compressor pipe.. that's not the issue.. its facing out twords the stock intercooler area.. hence a garret style turbo. i don't think hes lying.. ide say 95% of dsmers in this area have not a frekin clue of how the car works.. let alone the boost system.. im now just getting into all the math involved, and Ive been a dsm freak for years. its a garret turbo.. probly a t25. it was small and looked just like mine. thanks for the info guys.. just wanted to clear this up. ill call him and tell him hes been had.

That's sad to see that he was told something was in there when it wasn't. It probably influenced his decision to purchase.

I'm not saying you're foolish enough to fall for it. After all, you hit the nail on the head with the compressor outlet facing the passenger firewall :thumb:. . . If he pulls the compressor cover and measures the diameters he'll have a straight answer. And at least know for sure,.

ya it most likely did influence him to but it.. or maby he had no idea what a 16g was.. in that case he bought it just cuse he wanted a dsm. Ill try and set him strait though. it is sad that ppl will lie to sell a car. its just not right. thanks for the help though dsm-onster

ya..it may exist.. but i seen the compressor housing.. it was no 16g.. it faces the outside.. not down.. so no confusion.. also it was as big as a t25. no mistaking it.. trust me.. Ive been despising mine for months now and have its puny size carved into my memory. GARBAGE!!!

EXCUSE ME.. ive had a few to many screw drivers..LOL

P.S. hahah do i use too many periods??
