ok guys, i have a weird situation on my hands. my girlfriend bougt a 95 gs back in october. During the course of winter her car started having this weird problem where it would not start after driving it. the car starts beautifully when cold but as soon as you drive it any where and let it set for 5-10 mins it will not start for anything. if you let it set for about half an hour it seems to clear itself out and starts great. now, what i found is that the motor had been changed prior to us purchasing it. upon further investigation the car has no fpr. none what-so-ever. now, my question is, is this why it is hard to start after the car has been running for a while or is there maybe something electrical. another question i have is where does the fpr go. the fuel rail looks nothing like my turbo car. the fuel line on hers is hooked straight up to the fuel rail with no return or anything. the other end(pass side) is just capped off with a fitting on it which appears to be for fuel pressuer tester. any light that can be shed on to this would be great. thanks.

Sounds like a late model fuel system. There is an FPR tee'd into the supply line somewhere before the fuel rail, bleeding pressure to the tank - there has to be. Check just in front of the fuel tank, under the vehicle on the passenger side.

2g N/T's with the 420a are a returnless fuel system. What is meant by that is the FPR is back right above the fuel tank and the excess pressure if immediatly returned to the tank, only allowing the right pressure fuel to go to the rail. That is why when you turbo a N/T 420a you have to change it over to a return style setup with a FPR after the rail, just like a 4g63. The FPR is definetly there, lift up the bottom of the back seat, take out the 4 screws holding a small plate on the passenger side floor, then look down through the hole and you'll see the fpr inline there. Sorry I don't happen to have any pics, but just like Locke said, it's there

'95's and some '96's (early model) had a conventional fuel system, with the FPR on the end of the fuel rail, and the return line next to the supply line at the fuel rail - the excess doubles back within the rail.

Many people do keep with the "returnless" late model fuel system when boosting their late model 420a's, which works fine, but it is more common to convert to the early model's conventional fuel system in this situation.

hey thank you guys for the responses. i know for a fact that there is not one off the tank, shortly after buying the car i found out that it needed a new gas tank. so, i know that it is not there for a fact. i did have the fuel system tested and it was a steady 80lbs of pressure constant, to me that sounded high. the lack of a fuel pressure regulator pointed to the high fuel pressure. i will talke a look to see if it might be on the pressure line though. i did a search on here and someone else said that there is a fpr located on the passanger side near the tire? anyone heard of this maybe. thanks again guys.

That is the 96-99 set-up. Simply look right in front of the passenger rear tire (probably want to jack it up for this to make it easier to see) and you will see your fpr. Its right next to your fuel filter.

well the motor did come out of another car so maybe this is the case. i will definantly check this out. so would the lack of a fpr be the cause of the car not wanting to start after sitting for a min or two? i have seen how cars are tough to start when cold, but when a car has been running and shut off for a min and doesnt start is baffiling me.

Wow. You should be seeing 50psi.

If you in fact don't have an FPR, I'd imagine your exhaust burns the eyes and is likely flammable, the engine is producing little power, you get horrible mileage, fouled plugs and constant misfiring even with cleaned plugs, takes absolutely forever to warm-up, &c...

yeah thats pretty much about it. except for some odd reason has not fouled plugs and acttually runs fairly well. ive never owned a n/t car so im not sure how there supposed to run. it warms up pretty normally, actually the only problem i see with it is the re-starting situation. i really need to get this problem solved because my girlfriend is afraid to drive it anywhere because she gets stranded everytime.
now i know a coolant temp sensor causes starting problems, but if im correct that is usually only in starting cold. hers only has a problem starting after it has been running and sat for a few min. i also searched on here to see if the fuel pressure solenoid would be a suspect but am not sure on this either. as i stated, im just trying to narrow this problem down, so anyone with some suggestions i thank you.
