I have a quick question. I am planning on getting the MAF Trans and the GM MAS..Now when I do this, can I just place a screen on my turbo without having a intake tube since my MAS will be the GM one hooked up to my UICP??? I know more debris could enter my engine, but what i am thinking about doing, is taking my K&N filter and cutting to size then hose clamping it to my turbo. Suggestions would be great, (Good/Bad)

I personally wouldn't do it. Your intake will be that much closer to the exhaust manifold and you will be sucking in hotter air. Just my opinion.

That would be a bad idea. Putting just a piece of filter over the turbo inlet would cause it to clog up really fast. Then you would be reducing the air the turbo can get.

Well I know that the intake temps would rise more quickly then having a tube and filter further away. However I was just checking to see if that would cause the engine or turbo system to read incorrectly. Cause I know that spool up would be much louder and quicker. Like I said just a thought.

Don't simply run a screen, but you can get a short intake tube and connect it to the turbo, and then your k and n. It won't need a recirculation hose anymore, so it really is a piece of cake to make one. Hell, even a hot air intake off of ebay for a civic will work.

LOL....What i'll Probly end up doing is just that, but will need to buy a different filter seeing that I still have the stock 1g Mas and K&N.

a screen on the turbo inlet is really restrictive, It disrupts the flow going into the turbo, I had a friend that had a civic with a b16a and a t25 off of my 2g and he put a fairly open screen directly on the turbo and the turbo sounded like it was really working to get air so we pulled it off and with no other changes we picked up 4psi of boost both without a boost controller.

Honda and Supra guys have been doing it for a long time. It will suck in hotter air, your spool will be different, and your bov will sound different, but there's really no ill effects depeneding on how thick/thin your screen is.

On the few cars that I have seen it done it was out of necessity due to lack of space for a filter and/or intake pipe. I think if you have the space to use a filter and intake pipe then why not utilize it. You will get cooler, cleaner air coming into the engine.:thumb:

Few things to consider

1. cool thing about things with close tolerances moving at roughly 100,000 rpms. SMALL, i mean measureable in microns, sized particles of dirt can do bad things. Multiply this by the millions of particles that will get by and take this in respect to time and guess, what! time for a new compressor.

2. having the screen flush to the turbo DOES distrupt the air flow. Read a damned fluid dynamics book if you think other wise. The only why i could see you making it work, would involve a honeycomb similiar to the one on the maf sensors, to stabilize the air AFTER the screen AND/OR half-assed air filter. But by this point, you could have just used a regular, larger/longer filter that most people do. This creates a bit more availible air for the turbo, and the intake tube channels the air creating a better flow.

3. a screen is going to be louder, yes. but why? for starters, you dont have the muffling effect that a normal air filter has. If it cant stop dirt, its sure as hell not stopping sound. Secondly, your turbo is pissed because the air its bringing in is somewhat chaotic. When your impeller is spinning at 100,000 rpms and the air is coming in all turbulant like, yeah your going to get some noise from the blades.

4. your intake temps are hot enought already, take the air from somewhere that isnt between the hot air from the radiator and a red hot metal chunk.
