Okay, my car is dead and i'm just gonna lay the problem out.

My car over the past week has started up no problem, but when starting up it sounds like its gonna die when first cranking, but then just fires up. I went out to my car this morning, and I would crank it and it would crank for a couple seconds and then finally just die out. Now I just bought a new battery 3 weeks ago, so i took it back, upgraded from 650 amps to 685, but then I put it in, and now there just isnt any power, period. I also swapped in a new alternator when putting the new battery in just for shlts and giggles.

So bottom line, i got a brand new alternator and battery, all hooked up right and there is completely nothing going on, no cranking, no lights, no nothing. What's going on?

Also when hooking up the new battery, do you hook up the power to the battery before the ground, or the other way around? or does it not matter? Thanks in advance guys, I'm freik'n floatin in the breeze here, I need help. :talon:

all my fuses are good...I just am baffled, I get a new battery, new terminals, new alternator, its all put in, and still, no power period. Could I have shorted something when I connected the power, then connected the ground last? I'm flappin in the wind here guys!

When taking the terminals off it's ground first then positive. When putting them on it's positive first then ground. The alternator has it's own fuse and the likely source of the problem when you don't get any charge. It's a 80A fuse that is bolted in the fuse box on the passenger side of the engine bay.

If it's good then your "new" alternator might be bad.

Latest Progress:

We found out that indeed the alternator is working, and the new battery is okay, along with all the terminals. HOWEVER the alternator 80A Fuse is blown to kingdom come. So i purchase a new one and throw it in there, only to have it blow in a matter of .5 seconds. It did this 3 times before I decided to stop blowing them. What is causing this? Could it be some sort of ground? By the alternator there is a set of two wires just hanging. I alrdy put the main ground on, and hooked it up correctly, but these to other wires just hanging I dont know what they are for, does anyone have an idea? Or an idea of why my alt. Fuse keeps going kaboom?

What main ground? The alternator gets grounded by way of the bolts to the block. The only wiring to the alternator is the white B+ wires to the alternator output stud on the back and the two wires running to the connector that plugs into the alternator. I'm not sure what ground your talking about.

IIRC, the other wires coming out of the harness in that area go to the PS pump pressure switch and the oil senders, I think.
