Ok so here's the deal I've just got MMcd Version 1.8 on my palmV and everything seems to be installed correctly my problem is that i cannot for the life of me get it to connect to my car. I got the serial to ALDL cable from a gentleman in the classifieds and he said the cable worked just fine in his car. i have checked all the pins in the obd1 port and they seem to be working fine. My guess is that its the cable but it seems to wired correctly i don't know what to try next. I have searched and searched and found nothing conclusive that addressed my problem directly. Oh and the cable i believe is from a place called WestCoastDSM?? :banghead:

Can you take some photos of the Cable itself? This is one of our logger kits and I'd be happy to help you figure it out.
Also can you take a photo of the ALDL port with the cable 'plugged in'.

Shot in the dark here, but when you have your car running, and the palm connected, is the Pause button checked?

Also the parameters like RPM, INJD, KNCK etc are they selected? You have to select each one before it'll run in Monitor or Log modes.

Go through the options in mmcd and make sure they are right. 1953bps,dsm,etc. If that fails I would suspect the cable. A picture would help tho.
If you need, here is the info I used to make my cables. If you need to make one all the parts for mine I found at radio shack. Prya get em cheaper somewhere else tho.

The cable appears to ME to be fine. Should be connected as the first pic on this site states. http://mmcdlogger.sourceforge.net/ <--not sure why this site says to make such a complicated cable?? Can any one explain that?

If its connected right and mmcd is setup right, I would say your data port isn't getting the signal. Trace it back to the ecu at this point. Not sure how to check if its working unless you got a check engine light on and a needle sweep type voltmeter thing.

From what I see here the cable looks to be fine. TalonDVR is most likely correct. Verify the data signal is being recognized.

Ok well i have checked my cel codes on my car recently with a voltmeter and it worked just fine so wouldn't that mean my port was getting the right signals?? Is there any preferences i need to set besides DSM, and COMM 1953??

So i clipped the resistor on the serial port and now it works??

Sounds like there might be a break in the line somewhere in the Cable itself. This concerns me. I wouldn't want it to damage your car so I would refrain from using that cable until it can be diagnosed. PM me your address and I'll send you a new cable.
