NO COMPRESSION...AT ALL! ZERO! I have had a problem since the meet last weekend. At frist it was thought to be running on three cylinders. Some said bad spark. Could've been bad plugs. Could've been bad plug wires. Could've been bad coil pack. Could've hadthe timing was off. The plugs are about three weeks old and look fine. Brand new plug wires as of tonight and it did nothing. Tried a new coil pack and it did nothing. Tried a new igniter pack and it did nothing. Timing was checked and it was perfect. No head gasket leaks. Did a compression test on the cylinders and the #4 cylinder (passenger side) had 0 compression. ZERO! The #3 cylinder was at 150 I believe and #2 and #1 at 155 I think...a friend had the gauge. WTF IS WRONG! Valve? Head? Two of my friends were helping me out with all of this and they couldn't think of anything besides something to do with the valves, head, or even the ring maybe.

ya it sounds like a bent valve but to make sure do a cylinder leakdown test and thatll pinpoint yur problems for sure.

I'm one of the two guys who was helping him work on his car. We were boggle because we felt that if it were a ring it would still have some compression, and we're unsure how it could have bent a valve since his timing is still perfect. Maybe a stuck valve?

I guess it's almost a moot point (you gotta pull the head anyway) but are you getting any crankcase blowby (dipstick popping, gaskets leaking all of the sudden, strong smell of combustion gas)? That would indicate piston. Detonation can cause you to burn a hole in your piston. My guess is burnt or stuck valve. You can try putting a little oil in the cylinder to see if it pumps up any (if it's a broken ring landing, it will probably pump up a little - if it's not too bad) but, again, does it really matter because you're still going to have to pull the head?

Geez, I hate writing these negative posts. Umm....at least you didn't seize the engine :thumb: .

Good luck,
MB

Yea thanks all. I am trying to get a daily driver before I start ripping into the Talon. Got a garage to work on it already and the people to help me out (I eat DSMS? LOL) so not far away from getting started. I am some what excited because i have never had to do this extensive kind of work on my car before so it should be interesting. Yea it is pretty jacked up but what the point in getting pissed...its a DSM... Anyone got a nice 6bolt for sale? Haha!

other's have answered your question, but I just wanted to note that the above diagnosis you guys did had to do with spark.. not compression.. ever notice when you do a compression test you should always disable fuel or spark so that the car won't turn over...??

remember.. spark, fuel, compression ;)

/end wasting space

Yea I understand that. Those were all the problems we checked because we thought it was a spark problem and then hooked up the compression tester.

Ok to get this thread going back again...hahaha. The head came off today. One of the valves on that cylinder chipped. Not a surface chip but basically you can see through it. I guess that is where all the compression was going. The top of the piston looks great believe it or not. Head rebuild will follow.
