Well I seem to have a pretty major leak on the passenger side of my 420a engine. I noticed a large puddle the other day in my driveway so I checked it out and pretty much the whole, lower passenger side of my engine is wet. I'm also extremely low on clutch fluid (it's a 5spd). So I read in the Haynes manual it's probably the driveshaft seal or speed control sensor o ring. It doesn't look like it's coming from either of them though. The leak is so far on the outside I can't think of what it could be. It's everywhere though so I can't find the source of the leak. Any ideas of what it could be would be really helpful. Thanks

What is it that you see puddling? Does it look/smell like oil, coolant, or brake fluid? Did you look at the clutch master cylinder to see if it has fluid all over it?

Pressure wash the contaminated area, clean the piss out of it, dry it really well then take a short drive. You should be able to tell where its coming from.

follow the leak as others have said but if your brake fluid reservoir is all of a sudden low then check your clutch line and brake lines. Does your clutch pedal feel different or your brakes?

I agree with the power wash, fill, bleed and wait. I usually will put something under like news paper to really pinpoint that drip. check every 15 min if its class 3 leak.

It wouldn't be a leak from the clutch as there is no lines or anything that could leak that far to the passenger side of the car. Do like everyone else said and clean everything really good and then run the engine and look to see where it's dripping/leaking and trace it back to the source.

I cleaned the best I could, ran it, and looked again. This time the only place I see fluid is on the oil pan. I'm so confused now. My oil level isn't that low but the clutch fluid reservoir is pretty much empty. Brake reservoir is full too. I can't tell the difference between oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid so could anyone help me out?
I plan on filling and bleeding the clutch tomorrow. Also can someone tell me exactly where to check the transmission fluid/gear lubricant? I couldn't find anywhere on the case.

The more I've looked at it the more it seems like its oil. I'm not for sure but I think it may be my camshaft seals which probably leaked all the way down behind the t belt cover to the oil pan. So now my question is, can I adjust the cam seals just by taking the valve cover off?
Thanks for the replies.

you will have to take the cams out to replace the seal before you do this there is a idk whats its called but it a cap for the cam shafts it has 4 bolts and it covers both cams and its right next to the cam gears, take it off clean all the old rtv off and replace it first to see if helps. Your owners manual will tell you where and how much sealant to put on it.

The oil you're losing is probably from the head gasket- my 420A has been leaking in the same place since 2002.

If you're losing clutch fluid and cannot find out where, look under the dash. If the firewall is wet and the carpet is soaked, change the clutch master cylinder.

Yep just about to say clutch master. Also the manual tranny has no dip stick and the fill hole from what i remember is in a very retarted spot somewhere on the front. And incase its the master cylinder, all 2gs have the same clutch master both turbo and non.

i am having similar problem my clutch res. is going dry on me and ive cleaned it and checked it and it seems that the fluid is coming from bottom of my trans right where it bolts to the engine????? is there something inside the trans that could be leaking?:hmm:

check the clutch line.... if you can not find a hole in the line then it is more than likely your Slav Cylinder
