RECENTLY I HAVE EXPEREINCE 5TH GEAR POPPIN OUT OF ENGAGEMENT. EVERYTIME I GO TO 5TH IT POPS OUT. SO I HAVE BEEN RIDING IN 4TH UNTIL I CAN GET SOME INSIGHT ON THE PROBLEM AND SOLUTION. I DONT WANT TO TAKE IT TO THE SHOP UNTIL I KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE. ANY IDEAS??? :dsm: :(

VFAQ

Read that
**edit** It's already linked to where you need to go. I did the searching for you. Isn't that nice of me.

It certainly would have been nice of you to do the searching for him, but his profile says he has a 95 n/t, which the vfaq doesn't work for, n/t trannies are nvt350 and set up completely different from the turbo trannies... you can't just pop off the end cover and tighten the nut...

well my buddy next door had the same problem and started on 3rd gear and ended up popping 3rd and 5th and resulted in a replacement or rebuild i mean when he would put it in gear it wouldnt automatically pop out if he was driving normally it would be fine but after he tried gunning it up a hill it would pop out and he would have to hold the gear in place.... good luck and hope its just the clutch

BLINKY 619... was this a turbo or non turbo car? jw what they rebuilt if it was non turbo? synchros? bearings? dogs n sliders? would like to know as lots of n/t dsmers have this problem and don't ever post what the solution was...

xhackerekx i'm assuming you are talking about the input shaft bearing? when bearing goes out the shaft walks, hence the gear popout... this seems to be a common prob on the n/ts and usually people just point everyone to the vfaq for gear popout which is only for turbos...

I went to the vfaq link to solve the 5th gear problems on our 1996 GSX Turbo.

The embedded links to dsm.org failed. As they are from 5 years ago, maybe
they have moved.

But I think I understand the basics. On a turbo version of the 5 speed manual
there is a inspection plate that when opened , just might have a loose or
in-need-of-adjustment nut.

Is there an easy way to explain to me how to access this so we can check .

The car has 127,000 miles and appears reasonably unmodified and stock in the engine area.

We are new to the Eclipse 1996 GSX, but I am fine with technical stuff and
doing mechanical work.

So, please advise. Thanks to all.
