hey guys,
im putting an evo 16g on my 98 gsx, im also getting evo ported manifold, 2.5 in o2 housing, 550cc injectors ,and a 190 fuel pump. i already have greddy intercooler pipes and bov as well as boost guage and manual controller, a datalogger and an intake. my question is(and i have been doing alot of searching) what should i get to help with this setup. i can afford either a safc and partial exhaust, full exhaust, or a greddy emanage and eo1 boost controller. wht would you guys suggest i get and why?
thanks for any help

yeah im leaning towards getting emanage but im not sure about how the turbo will pull or the spool up with stock exhaust.
what do you guys think?

with the 550's youll deff need an A/F controller...But on the other hand the stock exhaust is very restrictive.. If you wanted to for cheap, get a race pipe to replace your cat...would help. You will still see lots of new power with the evo..just wont see its full potential and lower spool times until you open up your exhaust

If you cant have both at once you need to get the tuning stuff first no question, tuning your car will give you better results then opening the exhaust. It will run like crap if you just buy the exhaust and dont get anything to tune with. Get the exhaust later.

okay if i get full exhaust but dont put in my injectors what psi should i be running. ive read anywhere from 11 to 15 psi. i want to be safe but would like a little more power than what ive got until i can complete the setup. so what should i run?

no pump/no fuel control/no injectors = 10 psi or less (depending upon knock)

pump/ no fuel control/ no injectors = 15 psi or less (depending upon knock)

pump/ fuel control/ no injectors = 16-17 psi or less (depending upon knock)

pump/ fuel control/ injectors = 17+ psi or less (depending upon knock)

no pump/ fuel control/ no injectors = 14psi or less (depending upon knock)(what I am running without my 190 in yet on my b16g and the maft setup, and I leaned mine out too with help of the logger obviously, the stock pump has decent potential if you have tuning capabilities)

Other people will have different opinions on this, but this is what I have done/researched/seen-ridden in before

^^^ assumes you are doing a full exhaust and dont have any creep issues ;)

yea don't 1/2 ass it. WAIT until you have the exhaust, injectors, and a way of tuning before you mess with fuel control. Until then don't mess with your injectors and don't boost more than 15 psi or so. I was able to get 17 psi out of my old 16g with stock injectors and no fuel control. I did have an upgraded pump though. You need a datalogger to know for sure if you're safe or not.

ok so i guess i should get full exhaust and put my fuel pump in but leave out the injectors until i get an safc or emanage, do you guys think an emanage is worth the little extra, say i could get one with several of the harnesses and the laptop hookup for about 250. would it be worth it to go ahead and get that instead of an safc?

That EVOIII is probably gonna creep. I'd get a afc before installing that turbo orelse it's gonna be a pain if it creeps...I had severe knock with a test run and my evoIII, installed the injectors and pump and it's all good now...the cold weather kinda helps keeping the smic cool too though.

Put in the pump and REWIRE IT!!!! This really shouldnt be considered optional especially if you wont have injectors yet. I say get the full exhaust. o2 eliminator if possible. I had no creep on this setup without a cat until i put my blow through mas setup up on. If you worried about creep then do a port job before you put it on so you wont have to worry. Ive been running 16psi on my evo16g with only a rewired 190 fuel pump and no knock. O ya and the emanage would own the afc.

the turbo ive got is ported and has the 34mm flapper mod done, i also got a ported evo manifold. iwas plnning on a fuel pump rewire when i put the new one in. so it will be okay to run the evo for a little while on stock injectors? if so ill get the full exhaust and save up for emanage. who all make an o2 eliminator downpipe that i can bolt up to the stock cat, or an aftermarket cat. im looking for a 2.5 exhaust setup.

2nd on the exhaust, i have a evo 16g and i dont get much out of it because i still have the whole stock exhaust system(only because my car had C/W when i bought it so i swapped and put a 16g on there while the motor was out to make it a lil easier.) I have a question of my own, and that is will it really show its power when u upgrade to an aftermarket 3" exhaust and intake? Check my mods list to see what else im running because i drive it daily and i swear it just isnt pulling like it should b and im hoping its because of the restriction from the exhaust.

1. Exhaust. No question here. That should be the FIRST thing you buy for your current set up.
2. Don't waste your time with an AFC or e-manage. Save up and buy DSMLink. I made the mistake of using an AFC. It was Practically free and I still wish I never ran it! I made decent power (320AWHP small 16g) with it but daily drivability and tuning were a pain in the ass.
3. Run the e16g at lower boost (12-15psi) with your 190lph pump and wait to turn it up until you get some time on the dyno with a wideband and/or get a REAL tuning device like DSMLink. I am not nocking people who run an AFC or e-manage (I ran one!) but just trying to give you some friendly advice from personal experience.

Of course the exhaust/intake is going to have a huge effect! That's why you should do those first! I understand why you didn't but it really will wake the car up when you do. Also, do an intake leak test. I sound like a preacher about that lately but a lot of problems can be fixed with that simple 20min. test.

Your damn right the intake and exhaust will make a hell of a difference. At least the exhaust. But then agian your a 2g an injen intake made a noticable diff on my old 96 tsi when that was the only mod. You say you want a 2.5" exhaust which is exactically what i have and its workin out well though now i wanna upgrade to a 50 trim and i wish i got a 3 in in the first place so just consider that. And if you even think about puttin the stock cat in there agian some one shoudl come over and smack you. test pipe all the way. I have a high flow cat in now and i cant stand it. The car is so much faster with the test pipe not to mention i have more throttle response and the turbo spools faster with a test pipe. I make full boost by 3k with it in and the vaious other mods i have so youll like that. Its nice to have alill over 4k of a powerband.

And turbo eclipse yes yoru exhaust and intake are definately holding you back!

you asked where to get a o2 eliminator exhaust. well i got mine from dsmotorsports. Its a vrs 2.5" from the turbo back including a tubular 2.5 o2 housing that recirculates the wastegate. I dont recomend it unless you wanna relocate your oil fliter. If you dont the flange between the o2 housing and downpipe wont fit. I suggest looking for one that has a 2 bolt flange like the stock one does. Mine is a 3 bolt flange and thats is why it wont fit. Of course relocating your filter has its advantages. I now hold 5 qts. of oil, i have alot more oil pressure and its in a really east spot to get to right infront of the passenger tire.

i probably wont use the stock cat, id get one of those high flow(resonated testpipe) cats. i dont want a loud exhaust. i know how my n/t eclipse sounded with no cat, is a turbo car more rumble than weedeater sounding? do you guys think it would be worth it to get tubular o2, 2.5 downpipe and highflow cat, then have a exhaust shop make a 2.5 catback system? or should i just buy a manufactured catback? i want a dualtip(like stock) muffler but the only system ive seen with one is the bosal system. anybody seen any other ones? i was also hoping to get the exhaust and put it all on when i change out my manifold and turbo. i figure it would be the best time to do it.

I got a 1G AWD with the E316G and its ported with a 34mm flapper. I also have the 3" SS RNR exhaust with cat. The sound is almost the same as stock with a test pipe while cruising and a very deep tone when getting on it. Actually it sounds real close to my 5.0 mustang with exhaust. Not objectionable on a 6 hour drive. No creep either.
