im about to be proud owner of a 1998 talon tsi awd , i was wondering how much should i pay for a timing belt change. i plan to make the car my daily driver. i would like to get it up to about 250-275 hp. what would be the easiest and most affordable way to accoomplish this. some of the work i can do myself. i can handle a wrench pretty well. i looking forward to hanging out with some guys in this forum. im from orange county, ny. thanks in advance :talon:

A timing belt change with balance shaft, idler and tensioner should run you about $400 to $500 including labor. If the car is on it's second scheduled maintenance, you should also replace the water pump in case it hasn't been done before. Tuner shops may do it for a little bit less, but make sure you specify OEM parts.

With respect to tuning, there's a link on the top navs of the site. Basically, it takes you here:

Finally, everyone will tell you to search as we have a great search feature here. Welcome aboard and good luck with your DSM :dsm:

If you can handle a wrench decent then do the timing belt yourself. It isn't hard and the only way you ar going to learn is by trying it, just take your time. Go to the tuning guide they should be able to help you out with your HP goal.
