k, i drove a 95 gs-t today, was the first eclipse and first turbo car i've ever driven (holy #### :D , i've been missing out w/out one) anyways, the blow off valve is an aftermarket one that is to big and hits the hood and it vents into atmosphere. My question is how hard is to put stock valve back on and vent back into the intake? Oh yeah... the intake is the injen kit.

It's extremely easy to change it out. If it has the stock UICP you can just swap back to stock easily. If it has a UICP that's flanged specifically for TurboXS (i assume) you may have to get a new UICP. But it won't be hard to do.

Are you going to be purchasing this car? Does he have a MAFT setup? If no, ask him how long he has been venting to the atmosphere. It is not healthy for the car to be vented to the atmosphere with the stock MAF.

Hopefully i will be buying this car. Don't really know about the maft setup cause today was the first day ive ever even been in an eclipse. The car idled just fine if that helps any.

Also when shifting while speeding up fast there is a sound that im guessing is the turbo slowing down (no idea so correct me if im wrong). Is that normal with it venting into atmosphere or is it bad?

Ask the seller if he is using a stock MAS. If you are fairly technical, the MAS in a 2nd gen turbo is directly connected to the air filter/air box. If you see a black box there with a plug in it, then venting is bad.

There is a whistling sound to a turbo when it spools up.

There's also a sound that sounds like spinning metal slowing down when the clutch is pushed down while shifting and speeding up fast. I have no idea what it is or if its normal.

Only if the intake has the BOV return line. My buddy got dicked when he bought his by getting the Injen one without the return line. It should be a fairly fat tube maybe inch and a half or so Im guessing. And also, you can pick up a 1G BOV on here for cheap, and they are much better than the plastic leaky BOV's.

:talon: dale

It's got the hole for the return line. The guy who owned it just taped over the hole with electrical tape. :shhh:

How hard is it to replace the UICP?

EDIT: Oh yeah... I bought the car. :D

It's very easy to take the UICP off. The stock one takes about 5 minutes to get off (the biggest pain is getting to the lower BOV bolt which can be a slight annoyance if it's stock and tilted. But most aftermarket are on the top, so that'll make it even easier.)

Congratulations on the DSM purchase, and I know what you mean about driving a vehicle with some "go power" for the first time. The first time I heard that turbo's "whiiiiiir" spool noise, it was pretty awesome. The turbocharged diesel volvo that I drove never made such a thrilling noise :p.

Good cause I need to put the stock one back on. The car had a TurboXS RFL on it when I bought it which sounds awesome but it attracts a lot of unwanted attention when your a 17 year old.

You might as well try and find a 1g BOV (they hold more boost), and if you can't afford to buy it, just sell the aftermarket BOV on ebay. I bet if you say "ricey" or "makes loud noise" a lot in the description, you'll get a buyer ;).

I'm a complete noob with this stuff as well. I just bought a gs-t, and I know that it has a 1g bov on it right now. How do I check to see if its vented to the atmosphere or not? What should I look for. Thanks

Did you ask the previous owner what aftermarket BOV it is? With that, we might be able to tell you if there's a chance that it can be recirculated. That could save you some money.

tunc, if there is a hose attached to the BOV that looks like it's going back into the intake pipe then it's recirculating.

Mine connects to the intake manifold via rubber hose. The only things that connect to the intake (ignoring the large bov hose, the obvious turbo and aircan) are the charcoal canister and the crankcase breather valve. And if that's not right, then I have to go change some things around :p.

If it's not in there, is it just hanging out somewhere? or is the hose just not there?

I just went and took a look and there is a hole in the intake that has a plug in it, is this where the hose from the bov is supposed to go? does this mean i am venting to the atmosphere

I just took a picture with me holding the hose that goes to my BOV. It's kind of hard to see since the cruise cables are in the way, and after driving the car ... they're kinda hot :p ... so I hope this helps.

The valve is a TurboXS RFL.

That BOV cant be recirculated.

I ran one for over 2 years on a stock MAF without any problems. I hardly got rich on shifts. My friend tried the same BOV and the car stalled all the time.

Every cars diffrent :p Some people can run them fine, others cant.

but you do need to try an d come up with a cap or something so you aren't sucking unfiltered air into the engine. electrical tape is not a good solution.

ya, that was the first thing my dad noticed when he looked under the hood. Another thing, the bov hits the hood right where the hose hooks to it on top so it cuts the end of the hose. Any solutions for that? I cut the part that was cut off but it just gets cut again. Not bad enough it leaks but almost.
