Hey guys. My name is Branden. Just bought a 93 talon ES with a 6 bolt swap. Just fell like saying hey and asking 2 questions. Ok. So when i fisrt start my car it revs to about 800 then drops and shuts off. Sometimes it tries to rev back up but it sounds horrible. I know it does it on cold starts but not too sure about hot starts because i havnt really driven it that much because i dont have insurance or tags for the car yet because i just bought it. I have to hold the gas in right after it starts and let it rev at about 1500 for a few seconds. After that it idles fine. What could this be and how could i fi it. Also, i was just reading about this but didnt find a solution. The guy that had the car befor me had an aftermarket headunit in it but took it out before i bought it. So i have no stereo what so ever. The problem is my the lights for the fan and defrosters and all that do not turn on. how do i fxi this? sorry for the newb questions. I dont want to piss anybody off but I do want to get these little problems fixed asap. Any and all help is appreciated. Please have mercy on me.

As far as the lights, you probably have to just take a look at the connection for the HVAC control or pull it out and replace the tiny light bulbs inside. It shouldn't be too hard. Welcome, and good luck man!

hey Branden :) congrats on your new ride :hellyeah:

I thought all 90s - 94's were 6 bolts?? Can anyone please confirm this for us.

The lights issue could be a fuse I believe. Have you tried checking your fusebox for any fuses that arn't the right one?

If it idles fine after warming up a little, the problem is probably your Coolant Temperature Sensor. Luckily, it's a pretty cheap part and fairly easy to change.

Thanks for the help guys. I need to get that idle fixed Though. Ill mess with the lights in a couple of hours. But if anyone can help me with my start up problem it be sweet!. But yea. Not all 1g's have the 6 bolt. If im right, they started putting the 7 bolts in at 92 and a half. But now that im thinking of it, are the 7 bolts better even though of crank walk? I hear the are freer reving? But again, thanks guys for the help and any tips on my start up problem would be highley appreciated. :)

The 7 bolt has a better head, but for the most part 6 bolts are superior.

Thanks for the help man. is there anyway to test the sensor to be sure or should i just replace it and hope it fies my problem?

Hell yea! Glad I ave the 6 bolt then :hellyeah:

I havent checked the fuse but i saw on the one thread if it was the fuse, the whole gauge cluster lights wouldnt be working. I dont know. I will check everything in the afternoon. Thanks for the help :)

4/3/1992 was the last day 6-bolts were produced. My Talon just happens to have been built on 4/3/1992.

The sensor is located on the bottom of the water outlet.

Use a multimeter on the ohm setting and test the sensor when it is unplugged. Should fall into this range depending on the coolants temp. Do it when it is cold so coolant temperature is near ambient.

32* - 5900 ohms
68* - 2500 ohms
104* - 2700 ohms
176* 300 ohms

+1 You might also want to check the wiring to the sensor. It's possible it's not even plugged in or the connector is broken. The wiring there tends to get super hard and brittle because of the constant temperature fluctuations.

That has to be a misprint. The resistance goes along a constant curve, it doesn't go down-up-down.

OK so I havnt got to mess with the talon yet today but im about to go mess with it now. I looked under the hood and saw 2 differnt possible wires that could be the temp sensor. I dont exactly know which one it is. I dont have a multimeter either :( I have one that only checks volts... Ugh. I need to get this thing running right. Oh and whats an average stock 0-60 for these cars? I ran about 10 secs today. I dont know if thats good or bad. Had some wheel spin but wasnt too bad. Just so weird seing such a high number cause im use to my mustang doing it in llike 6 or 7. One day the talon will dust the stang. :hellyeah: Hopefully within the next few months. I wanna Get heads and cams. get it turboed. walbro fuel pump, injectors and all suporting mods and a good tune so i can run 15-18 safely without having any worries. Just need to get a ot of cash in my piggy bank. Ive been looking for places to find aftermarket parts for my es. The only place i really found was ebay =/ Any sugestions?
