Just finished 16g install. But now I am getting some smoke from under the exhaust manifold. Some white smoke, not thick or anything. Smells like oil. Do new turbos smoke at all? Could it be from oil, coolant, rtv, and antiseize from the install? Any smells or smoke normal?

Oh, and I bought this small 16g from a friend who was boosting his 420a and meant to buy a t3/t4. It was sitting in his garage for like 2 years with no use. I don't think he oiled it at all. Could this cause an issue?

New turbos shouldn't smoke, but from what you said in the second paragraph, looks like it is used. Depending on how old and how it was used the turbo could smoke if it's leaking oil. Since it was left for 2 years, my question would be, were the oil (in/out) plugs closed? If oil manages to fully come out, I believe you can damage the seal from them drying up. I could be wrong but that's my understanding from the material they are made of. Was there any play in the turbo?

It is either burning the paint off or its just burning off the oil you may have spilled on it. Or it could just be burning off the oil from your hands, did you prelube it before you put it on? Did you prime the system?

Yes it could smoke from the install. As copied right from RRE 16g tweaker install kit tips.

Use ant seize thread compound on everything. It will smoke a lot when you first start it and also when you first get it real hot.

If it is a brand new turbo it will burn of the shipping oil on the outside and smoke a bit for awhile. Nothing to worry about, just a bit stinky.
