Hi can someone help me out with finding a new tranny, i know shep tranny has them but there really expensive, i would like to send in my used tranny for them but im not a mechanic. How much does it cost usually to have someone swap trannys for you? Any kind of help in this catergory would be great!

OK well sorry for posting this cause i just found something right after, I think im gonna do the stage 2 for 1200 at tre, but is it hard to take out your tranny? Would someone recomend a experienced mechanic? I have a cheap working mechanic but it would kind of be a hassle leaving my car there.

Its not that hard to take out the tranny, if you're good with unbolting. Make sure you have some sort of support under the tranny (wood, tranny jack, couple of friends, etc.).

the removing of a tranny is basically all bolts. i would pick up a Haynes repair manual(usually pretty helpfull.) your going to want the car on jack stands. SECURLY. you want to make sure everything is discconected from the tranny before unbolting it from the block. example starter, or clutch lines.... i would not under an circumstance try this alone, i dropped the tranny on a friends 1g with just the two of us and it was straight up fear. proceed with caution but it's very do able. to put it into perspective i'm just gettin started and my friend is on the way alittle. just use caution.

If you read the first VFAQ under the drivetrain section there is a detailed removal process. It's for a clutch install but basically explains everything you need to know to remove and reinstall the trans. If your going to own a DSM you will learn how to remove the trans sooner or later. I can have mine out by myself in about an hour and a half. Just take your time, "bag n' tag" your bolts so you know where they all came from, and you should be fine. The only tool you may need that not everyone has handy is a socket big enough for the axle nuts. I believe it's a 32mm but everything else can be taken apart with basic hand tools.
