Hello, my gf and I just recently bought a 1997 GS-T. It has a rebuilt motor, but im not 100% sure which motor it is. (my name is Steve, she's Kara btw)

Mods are:
Evo III 16b turbo
3" megan exhaust w/manifold
K&N air filter
FMIC
550cc injectors
(Some kind of tuning, shitty now, WILL have redone professionally)
Bigger fuel pump.
Stege 2 clutch
TIAL BOV
MBC

Im new and not 100% sure whats done to this car... I know I can't find the dipstick to the tranny so I'm a little worried.

And we're from Three Rivers, Ma... I'll put pics up soon.

didn't know... I only wanted an average of what the cars potential is before doing anything else to it, or if I had to change anything.

Can I ask what an EVO III turbo adds to a stock eclipse then and go from there?

Read everything you can on this website----www.vfaq.com
Boost leak test should be one of the very first things you do. Aside from checking the timing/belt.
Dont worry about numbers....drive it....work on it....drive it some more....work on it some more....that is how owning a dsm works. Welcome to our world. Read the tech articles on this site. Familiarize yourself with what everything is doing under the hood....

REAL evo III 16G's are a pretty standardized upgrade. Supports some pretty impressive numbers and make great street turbo's with impressive spool and top end.

The dipstick for the auto tranny should be on the passenger side of the engine bay under the upper intercooler pipe somewhat....check fluid warm and in neutral....

Change all the fluids as well....and I mean all....transmission included.

Treat it well and it will do the same.

well.... i suppose you can, but it still wont really get your answer!!
the evo3 16g wont really add any more horsepower then the 14b INLESS you turbo up the boost!! The Turbo will spool faster and have a high topend performance then the 14b, s16g, and b16g!! the horsepower increase when the boost increases!! ;)

But take it to the track get a time...post it!!
AND get it Dyno'ed and post a thread showing us what you have! ;)

Good Luck!

im sorry...^hes^ corrected me.... it does spool faster then the b16g, but from what ive found is that is about same spool rate, but as much more potential then the small ones!

I was actually about to build my own hybrid using the 14b hotside and 16g compressor wheel and housing.... due to the fact it spools fast and giving me alittle more uptop!

Thanks for the correction! sorry! ;)

where is the manual tranny fluid dip stick, like 5 years ago I owned a 98' GS 5spd and I believe it had one in the rear, can't find it in this one. I want to change the fluid because it "feels" dirty to me. Already changed the engine oil, was totally black :notgood: and i need to replace the rad fluid resivoir.

It grinds into 2nd under hard accel, also think it could just be the clutch, but also ordered a short throw shifter just because it's more comfortable IMO.

Thanks for the welcomes though!

And hopefully if everthing is fixed by next week, I'll be going to Lebanon, NY to put a few runs in.

No wonder you're having trouble finding the dipstick. Manual transmissions do not have one - only autos. To check the fluid level in a manual transmission, remove the fill plug (front of transmission) with the car on a level surface. If nothing flows out, you're probably a bit low on fluid. If you don't know anything about the fluid, I'd just drain it and refill it.

Well then, that makes it easier, haha.

I know enough about tranny's at least. I put a shift kit into my grand prix 3 weeks ago at least. I also bought the eclipse/talon mechanics book to study up on in my free time for the hell of it.
