The dealer want $770 to replace it.
My buddy wanted $400
and my neighbor wants $250 (he is a nissan machanic).

I would do it myself but last time i did(i did it to my mirage) the timing was way off and i bent the valves. Any advice would be cool. Thanks
Logan.

I just bought mine from partsdinosaur.com but since my brakes went I had to fix those first so now the timing belt is going to have to wait. It was thanks to this guy right here that helped me choose partsdinosaur: View Profile: Splitpi - DSMtuners.com :thumb:
Very helpful member!

Hmmm... $770 from the dealer is hella high. I was told $582 from my local Mitsu. and thats with the seals, timing belt kit, and the water pump.

:dsm:

Do it yourself and inspect the timing before starting the vehicle.

If thats to much, pay the neighbour guy.

im going too... just bought my haynes manual and im gonna do it in the morning. on average how long does it take to go it.

Since it's your first time...what..maybe 5ish hours. This is of course how mechanically inclined you are and how well you turn a wrench. Scrawny people ftw! :thumb:

Figure for a few hours, if your not very experienced or lacking equipment.

ok so i screwed up the timing in alittle and then fixed it but something is weird now.....before i decided to change all this my belt was really loose and everyone told me to swap the hydrolic tensioner with the mechanical one. Also my car was make this hi pitched noise only when i was pressing on the gas. at idle it was fine. Now my car wont rev passed 6000rpms. I got pissed and sent it to my mechanic. Could it be my water pump making that noise. I kicked myself in the ass by not changing it when i had the chance and now i have to wait untill he tears it down.

Put the Hydralic tensioner back in... Theres no need for the mechanicial one as iit will have to constantly be monitored and readjusted...

The Hydralic one is self adjusting... Pull it apart and buy yourself a BRAND NEW OEM Tensioner...

This mechanical tensioner does NOT need to constantly be monitored and re-adjusted, you may be mistaken for a bolt-type tensioner (The one that go in the hydraulic tensioner position, but needs to be hand tightned.)

OK sorry I haven't responded in a while....My car is fixed now and runs really really smooth. There is still a little winding noise but only noticeable at high rpms. I did switch back to the hydraulic tensoner. The mechanic said the other one was not right. He said there was only 2 positions to place it, loose or really really tight. No where in between. Ok now since the car is done I have one small problem. I threw an engine code and it is P1494 I tried to see what it was and every time is search it gives me ford. can someone help me with this. thanks
