New speakers?????

I wanted to install some new speakers in the back of my eclipse, but I dont know what I should get? Does anyone have any advise for a good set of speakers the i can put in my 95 elipse that will fit in the rear? I have two 12 inch subs and a cheap 2000 watt. amp and I want the speakers to sound good and be able to handle the bass and power of my amp. What would be a good but cheap pair of speakers that I could install?

Most people dont invest much money in the rear speakers as they are just
used to rear fill --

Your money would be better spent on a nice set of front speakers and cheepos in the rear

It is also hard to find speakers that will fit in the rear. They are 6x9s but have a thinner magnet than most to fit back where they are. Aftermarket speakers will have larger magnets and will not fit back there.

Your best bet would be to take one of the speakers out and see what kinda of mounting depth you have to work with exactly, then go to the speaker shop of your choice and find a speaker that sounds good to you and will fit(according to the mounting depth). Some you may want to look for are speakers with the neodenium(sp) magnets as they are thinner and smaller but still produce good sound. Those magnets used to be only used in tweeters but have now been introduced more widely into larger speakers. Hope that helps!

In all honesty, don't even install any rear speakers. You have subs as it is so infest some money into a nice sounding set of front components; Focal or Oz "Matrix" series will do the trick quite well (pricey, but you don't have to go that far).

The rear speakers will start to take away the quality of the sound, and unless you have passengers in the back on a regular basis, are completely useless.

You can test this by setting your fade all the way to the front and by only using your front speakers and subs. Drive like this for a week and then add your rear speakers in again. You will notice the difference in sound quality right away.

MB Quard components are very nice sounding as well for their price, they are a little harsh in the extreme highs as they are an all aluminum tweeter.

Well I have not tried the method of the fade with the back but from personal experience in audio, most the time it won't help, but in this case it could. One thing that could be a variable in whether the rears are worth it is your headunit. My headunit allows me to set what frequencies my speakers use so when I upgrade my rears they will mainly be for midbass. Some headunits don't allow for anything of this sort. I do agree that the front will probably see the most noticable difference. Some options could be going pioneer and kenwood, something in the midgrade ranges, for your rear. And then spend the bigger bucks on some alpine type r or x's or infinity kappa's or nice mb quarts, up front. Then on the front I would probably either do the door speaker and new tweeters or a component. That all is kinda what I am looking to do with a reasonably amount of cash. But on picking the speakers go with what sounds best to you for the money.

I put all Alpine in my 90 Eclipse. The lay out of your 2G will be different, but this should help give you some ideas.

I replaced all the stock speakers with new Alpine coaxle's and separates:

(6 1/2" Alpine coaxle's) I first put these in the door thinking the separates would sound better aimed at my head from the back seat; I was wrong. I'm posting this so you don't make the same mistake I did. If you research speaker installs, some were it will tell you to put the nice set in front of you and close, and keep the tweeter no more than one to two feet from its woofer. Don't quote me on this, its been a while, and I'm by no means a pro.

(4" Alpine coaxle's for the dash) Great spot. I have a pic, I need to look for it.

(6 1/2" Alpine woofer & tweeter separates) Like stated above, I ended up moving these from the back to the front. They sound much better there. Unfortunately in the pic's posted you don't see the tweeters. I drilled holes in the plastic trim up by your head just to the rear. Its a cool place but to far form the woofer and now with the move its a really bad spot. I plan to move them to the dash or the door panel some day. ( I found the tweeter pic, here you go)

Notice the real short wires in the dash for the radio to hook up. I'll give you three guesses to what happened there??? Clue #1 new speakers... Need more help? I had to jerry rig my antenna wire because SOMEONE cut the end off. I bet you got it now!

After moving the separates, I ended up leaving the cross overs in the back. I didn't want to mess with them and there really isn't a good place to mount them.

I wanted to seal up the rear speaker mounting bracket. I don't know if the 2G's have a similar set up, but if they do it will help with bass response. I picked up some spray foam sealant from the hard ware store and applied it to the cracks and gaps in the mounting plate. I ended up getting the wrong kind. It was really soft after it dried. I don't know what it was really meant for but I do know there are some good ones out there and there sorta fun to use; just make sure and use it before you put your speakers in and give it time to dry. They also make plastic baffles, there sorta cup like things you mount your speaker in like a little enclose. They give it sealed air and water proofing from the back if your mounting in the front doors. I think you can get them from Crutchfield.

The main thing is giving them good power if you want them to sound good. You can take a crap tastick set of 6.5's, give them 100w RMS each, put them in a enclose and they'll sound great.

... For those of you lucky enough to have never had your car broken in to, the answer to my short and ridiculously hard to wire replacement radio wires is, non other than... some ass felt he needed my CD player more than I did. "ding ding ding"

personally i think kicker gives you the most bang for your buck, and there component kits are reasonable especially if you get the refurbished ones, that or memphis because i ran memphis in my car for a while and i like the sound of it

My Alpine Type S 6x9s fit fine on one side, but on the other side I had to bang the sheet metal behind the speaker area a little bit. Any 6x9 that are 3" deep or less (measured as top mount) will fit in there if you have stock 6x9 speakers. I had to go on ebay and find some 6x9 brackets since I had 5 1/4 in the rear. I have components in the front and if I was going to do it again, I would just find some 5 1/4 for the rear, as said before, rear speakers for for rear fill anyways.

Not all cars have 6x9s in the rear. My AWD came with 6 1/2 and 3 1/2s in the front and 5 1/4 in the rears, not 6 1/2 rears sorry. Mine also didn't come with the stock amp. I put components in the front, gutted out the 3 1/2 speakers and installed tweeters in them and then bough 6x9 brackets and put 6x9s in them.

Yeah, see what you have and then go from there. You can normally see the speaker from the outside without having to remove any plastic panels. If it is 6x9, it will be oval, if it is 5 1/4, it will be round.
