We just connected a dual h/u to a 1998 gs-t that had the infinity system. We used a wiring harness for the car, connected that via connectors to the h/u, and then plugged that into the harness in the car. In addition to that, we connected the antenna. The h/u powers on and receives radio signal, but no sound goes out to the speakers. Checked all connections, everything checks out. There were 2 connectors in the back of the infinity that had mic or p.a. plugs, and those wires we dont know what to do with. TIA.

If the original head unit was a factory head unit then that means your car has "premium sound." Usually when car car has "premium sound" that means you have an external amplifier and the factory head unit is a "dead Head" (no amp inside). Sometimes there is even an amp for each speaker. Im not really familiar with the eclipse premium sound so I cant help you with exactly how to wire that particular car, but u may get lucky if you ask your local car audio installer for advice... :talon:

Those "mic" plugs you speak of, is the Mitsu/Infinity premium sound proprietary connector. Think of it as 4channel rca output, and amp remote turn on wire all in one. It connects to the stock amp, and just like a true 4 channel amp setup, it tells the amp to turn on, and outputs the sound from the deck to the stock amp.

You said there were "2", the other one is probably for CD changer.

Thats basically the setup for the stock 2g "premium" sound. The audio in 2g eclipses/talons is a bit weird. All the speakers are wired parallel, to accomodate those that get the premium sound, and those that don't.

Well enough with the stock system talk.

Based on you described your install, there SHOULD be sound. Perhaps the headunit is defective as mentioned, but I highly doubt it. If you want to make sure, if the deck has rca outputs, output that to something and see if you get sound. Double check your connections AGAIN. I don't know what else it could be if the deck turns on, and you get signal from the antenna. Try a CD or something.

Again from how you describe the install, it should work, and biggest culprit would be the wiring of the speakers, speakers could be dead/not connected, defective deck.

When you do get it to work, you will notice the sound quality and sound stage is NOT AS GOOD as the factory setup. However your mind will be playing tricks on you, telling you that this aftermarket deck setup still sounds better, even though you know your ears are telling you other wise.

You no longer have working dash speakers/tweeters, making the sound stage more inferior, not to mention losing better reproduction of highs.

Also, the factory amp is no longer working, thus the reason you no longer have dash speakers because the x-over for them is built into the amp. No one has concrete evidence of how many RMS watts the stock amp puts out, but your ears will tell you, it puts out just a little bit more than any aftermarket deck MOSFET amp.

Good luck!

You won't get any sound out of the speaker leads on the plug you have. you have to use the big round black plug with the adapter. your deck is perfectly fine. If the outputs ate it you wouldn't be posting an is it broke thread. You would've seen the smoke. When you get that plug dont forget to hook up the remote(blue/white) wire

cbassgsx, thats what I always recommend, because you still use your stock amp to power the speakers, and have the dash speakers still work. It sounds much better. The route for people who don't plan to get aftermarket amps, and just get a new deck and speakers.

HOWEVER, in regards to the situation of the OP, he SHOULD get sound if he is indeed using the harness thousands of people all over the USA are using to install a new deck on 2g eclipse/talon/avenger. Those harnesses are just fine.

Like I mentioned, 2gs have almost a double wiring to the speakers. To accommodate those with infinity premium sound, and those who don't. Theres speaker leads behind the deck, and speaker leads under the passenger seat--which is the harness for stock premium infinity sound amp--those without premium sound still have this harness there.

Those without the premium sound, even have parallel wiring to the dash speakers, but I have only seen this in 95 "Talons"

Anyways, using the usual speaker harness that he is using, makes use of the leads behind the deck, which are just for the door speakers and rear speakers. So he should have sound.

If he wants to make use of the dash speakers still, he can just get some x-overs and find the leads to the dash speakers/tweets.

Geez 2g car audio schematics are etched in my head. LOL

okay if you look at the speaker leads(the gray white purple and greens) are there wires on the factory side of the plug

Yea might as wel check everything..

He has a 98 GS-T, I have done several 98 GS-T stereo installs. Unless he bought a car thats been hacked up, it SHOULD be there. These harnesses are no brainers and are made for smooth easy installs.

If his isn't working, problem might be in the wiring somewhere indeed.
