Ever since i owned my first ever 1G GSX, I've never been able to get over the feeling. I was in an insanely rough patch in my life when I bought it. But unfortunately I bought a massive POS, the trans exploded and i never looked back due to my ex leaving me in financial ruin. Well, my current situation is far different now, so lets give some backgroud of my current life before I ask. I live in Chicago suburbs now, I make about 30k a year currently but in one month garunteed I'll be making about 80k, it's going to be my every day driver, rain, snow, sun. I'm more than willing to give it what it needs to go every day (salt coat it, prevention upgrades, etc.) I have the opportunity to buy a 90 GSX off of a collector near me. It has 40k miles and it's bone stock, do I jump on this? It's $21,000. My heart wants this. But i need to be realistic. Should I even be considering this?

Absolutely do not buy that car to daily drive it. It is a 35 year old collector car and is not going to be problem free. Also, you'd be spending that much money on that car because it is low mile and, assumingly, the condition reflects that. It will rust out driving in winter conditions no matter the rust prevention that you do as you just can't keep the brine out of every little nook and cranny. The only way to buy a car like that is as a nice weather car to drive on nice days. Just my .02.

Absolutely. I've always dailyed cars i never should have but this is one I'm apprehensive of. At the end of the day im not afraid of showing the car it's share of sheet. But, as you said, I'm also aware a dsm, especially a 1G will never be problem free.

these cars are impossible to find especially mint. if it had over 200k miles with tons of rust already then id say hey give it go but oil spray it religiously etc

21K?
It better be a museum show piece from that 'collector'.

If it's truely worth that much, it needs to be kept out of the elements. Protected. Preserved. We may need it to repopulate the species one day.
Doesn't Chicago salt their roads worse than we up here used to?

Don't buy it. Or, if you really want it, do, but keep it for sunny, dry days. Buy a better DD. I'd never suggest somebody buy a 90s era car as a DD, regardless of make, unless you knew all parts were readily available. Which they're not in our case. Not by a long shot.

I agree with all previous sentiments. I personally don’t think any DSM should be a DD at this point. Just another one that will wind up getting crushed sooner.
