my dsm link has been telling me that my o2 sensor has been malfunctioing and the check engine light comes on so i went to Advance and bought a Bosch o2 and put it in went down the road and my A/F gauge not working really and the check engine is back on and on top of that my dsm link reads that the o2 sensor has malfunction as it did before. Has anyone encountered this before and what was done to fix the problem. I am going this evening to get another to replace the one I put on yesterday and see if it my just be a bad o2.

Please help as the A/F reads LEAN and before it was dead in the middle and towards rich. I know it is running rich because you can smell the gas from where I have not had it dyno tuned.

It is possible that the sensor is bad, as they are pretty fragile. If you drop them or even bang one against something with a decent amout of force you can crack the porcelain.

Also, are you sure that you wired it up correctly? I don't know about the 1g's, but the Bosch requires a rewire job on the 2g.

This is my second Bosch sensor I hope that its good if not my luck is not that great. I didnt hit it against anything either I took it straight out of the box and put it in. They make two different type of plugs for both 1g and 2g. ONe is the straight plug into harness and the universal that you will need to splice and connect your wires. I have the straight plug in so I know that the wires are correct at least we can hope that bosch did it right.

I talked with people at the local Mits. dealer and they said that they have had this problem with aftermarket o2 sensors. They said bad as it sounds the factory sensor would be the best route to go, Mits. said they have installed Bosch and other type o2 sensor on cars for people on a budget and could not get by the problem, there comment was it my be in the wiring of the aftermaket sensor for the reason why it kicks on the check engine light.

The strange thing about mine is I can clear the check engine light and it can stay off until "maybe" time starting the car if not the next day. But to top it off, I watched my o2 thru dsm link when the check engine light was off and than when it came on and seen "NO" difference in performance. I expect that it would change from something to worst but nothing, so what could it be I am clueless? I am going to bite the bullet on this one and lose the money that I put towards this sensor and go out to the local mits. and buy a $140 factory o2 sensor that I should have done first.

You won't notice any difference at WOT, as the ECU doesn't care about O2 voltage. You will see a drop in gas mileage with a dead O2 sensor. When the O2 sensor dies, the ECU "sees" that as a lean condition and unecessairly adds fuel to compensate. Thereby reducing your gas mileage.

I have never used an aftermarket O2 sensor and always advocate the use of OEM O2's.

It's up to you where you go from here, but the O2 sensor won't change your WOT tune.

I have no cat and I've had this problem with my 2nd o2 sensor for years. I get a bank2 o2 sensor malfunction. I've replaced it and still get the same code. I imagine this is because I have no cat and need to buy the harness to make the code go away.

Without a cat you will normally get a CEL for O2 bank 2 as the ECU sees a fluctuating voltage from the secondary O2. The ECU then thinks that the cat is bad and will throw a CEL.

Free way to get rid of your CEL:

Pull the O2 sensor from the exhaust and wrap it in foil, but leave it plugged in to the wiring harness. Then just grab yourself a zip tie and tie it out of the way somewhere. Reset your CEL and drive on! That will be $3, please drive thru. ;)

But what about the hole that the o2 sensory plugs into. Won't I have a huge exhaust leak there?

Thanks, for all the info. I have notice a drop in mileage. I have decided to order the OEM o2 and be done with it. I guess I lost 55 bucks it only takes once for me to make a mistake and not again will i go buy a aftermarket piece of @*it.

I don't know if you can get some type of plug or not? I know you can get plugs that will fit into an EGT bung, but I don't know if it's the same size. Or you could always have a muffler shop weld a piece over the hole.
