So just bought my first DSM. 95 Mitsu Eclipse GS-T. From what I can tell it has a pipe kit to the stock intercooler and a intake. The BOV is recirculated with a rubber hose. Also has a full 3" exhasut with what looks like an eBay muffler. The question I have is when I go to WOT the car sputters or hesitate a little then goes, where do I need to start looking. Looks like new NGK wires and Bosch plat 2 plugs. I know some about cars and have worked on Honda in the past but this is somewhat new to me so be easy.:D

Nono on the plat plugs. I wish someone told me when I got my dsm.run ngk bpr6es. They are copper plugs. Platinum holds heat much longer then copper so it has a higher tendincy to be the hottest part of your ignition system which is not wanted. lAnd make sure your gap is .028. If the gap is to much it will cause sputtering as well. The tech article is a good place to start looking at parts.
+1 always do a boost leak test.

Its not fuel cut if it sputters and goes. Fuel cut is like WHOA BAM! Brick wall. I only expeirance it at around 15-20MPH from a rolling start with my intake to bov pipe popped off.

It sounds like, boost leak, wrong kind of plugs, and possibly old plug wires.

Inspect the plug wires for corrosion on the tips. and any cuts. Throw those plugs into the trash and get some NGK copper core plugs. BRP6ES and gap them to .028. Now make a boost leak tester. It requires some RTV, a coupler, a valve stem for a tire, and a pvc end cap.

Cut a hole in the pvc big enough to put the valve stem into and still get a seal with the RTV. Apply RTV. Let it set for at at least 8 hrs. Now you have a DIY Boost Leak Tester.

Awesome looks like I start by buying new plugs and going to home depot for some plumbing parts. I will let you know tomorrow how it goes. Thanks

well got the plugs in and it does seem to have made a world of difference. No more hard hesitation upon acceleration. Does seem to have slight hesitation throughout the rpm range but as I said a world of difference. Still haven't had time to do a boost leak test yet but working on it. Does anyone know where I can find rebuild parts for a Greddy BOV? Any links or suggestions on setting the BOV up properly to avoid compressor surge?

I have a 1g BOV pm me for details.

It sounds like you are tracking along well. Once you fix boost leaks it should get rid of any mid range hesitation. Hairspray works great on pipe couplers. Just spray the inside of the pipe coupler and let it get slightly tacky before reinstalling the pipe coupler.

My car was doing the same when i bought it. I thought of several different things, but first thing I did was change the plugs and wires with some nice NGK and wires. Stay away from platinum, and make sure the gap is correct. when I pulled the plugs out, not only did they have crummy bosch platinums, but they were not even gapped correctly. that fixed the sputtering problem under boost, now I'm looking through for vacuum leaks.

problem is I already have uicp with the greddy flange welded on. Which means I'm either going to have to buy new piping or a new bov. Either way it's spending money that I really can't afford right now. Unless there's a deal out there...

could check junk yards and take it back to stock, Depending on the yard you could get some good prices. I've been to a few yards that charge out the a** for parts, and some where I walk out with more than I needed for almost nothing.

That I could. I just happened to go "explore" my buddy's garge and found a couple interesting things that he said he would be willing to sell if I was in need. One is a griffin fmic in perfect condition with no piping and the other is a MAFT and GM MAF. I know I want to do the fmic but i would need a piping kit. So far I haven't been able to find a piping kit that would accept this intercooler. Anyone sell specific kits for this? The MAFT I'm a little confused on, I'm really not building for speed so do I need it? Are there any benefits to it?

No real news on the MAFT, don't really think Ill be needing it but took it anyway, probably going to end up for sale but we'll see. Still looking for a piping kit...any ideas?

Finally was able to do a boost leak test and found a torn coupler, seems to run a lot better now but still has a slight hesitation when accelerating. Seems to happen in or out of boost and under medium to hard accel. Any helpful hints as to where to look? Also is there a list of common problems or fixes for these cars?
