new here any 1st hand maintanence advice?

My friend recently bought a 90 fwd laser and im pretty much helping him look up as much info on his car as possible and helping him plan his mod list. i've pretty much read everything on the faq and already read over these cars ALLOT. so far what he has done is cut open the stock air box, remove silencer and 1st honeycomb on MAF. we've been doing basic tuneup work but i was wondering if you guys had any first hand tips on things to look out for on the 1g. are there any other things you guys have had personal experiences that i should know to get this car at optimum running order. i know about the cracky headers, and possibility of crankwalk but i know thats the 2g. we've done the basic maintenence like plugs filters and oils. just introducing myself. just to clarify i am not the owner of this car just very involved in its process. i myself own a 92 3.0l straight 6 turbo supra. im just trying to learn as much about dsms as i can while i can. thnx.

Replace the timing belt and EVERYTHING timing belt related. EIther eliminate the balance shaft belt, and the shafts themselves, or replace the tensioner and belt. Replace ALL the pulleys, and also the timing belt and auto tensioner. Might as well replace the water pump for another $35 while you are in there.
