When i got my talon, i found that the ecu was one of a 91-94, so the tach didnt work. Now i got a brand new eprom 1990 ecu in it, and the tach still wont work. any ideas?

Have you tried a different gauge pod?

Did the previuos owner attempt to make the '91-'94 ECU work in the '90 and botch the wiring?

Either the motor for the tach in the gauge pod is bad or you have a wiring issue. Did the car run fine with the '91-'94 ECU?

i wouldnt say it ran good. But it ran. The maf was bad, but a bunch of the wires for the wiring harness by the ecu were spliced, like they ran an AFC, but i couldnt tell about the tach one. how would i check the motor in the gauge pod?

You would have to put in a new gauge pod.

Do as mulestrack86 said and check all the fuses and fusible links first. I would go over all the wiring that was spliced and make sure it has not come apart.

also, because it is a 90, double check the rf filter wire on the back of the manifold. If the rf filter isn't there, your tach wont work.

Does anyone know how to wire or have a wiring diagram for an aftermarker tach install on a 2gb. Some people on the site dont like aftermarket tach installs but I have one and I spent the money on it so I want it installed.

This has nothing to do with the original question. Read the rules then start a new thread.

no idea what the rf filter is, but behind the IM, there are two plugs that arent plugged into anything b/c they have nothing to plug into. Ive checked the fuses, none are blown from what i could tell. But ill take a closer look at the wires from the ecu. The ecu was put in by the dealership by the way.

I ran into this problem once. The guy before me had switched the ecu to a 91-94 so I found a 90 ecu, still nothing, except my abs light was flashing sometimes. I was curious since the car was a non-abs model. Upon checking into this further I discovered the cluster had been switched at some point to an ABS equipped style cluster, so i swapped gauge clusters with a non-abs model cluster and it works like a charm now.

did you try running a new transister pack? i know the 90s have a different ignition system then the 91-94 and the tech signal is in the transistor.

i know that the transistor pack and coil are the 1990, but i dont know about the gauge cluster, ill have to check that out. I think that might be it.
