ok me and one of my friends were playing around when driving and we both floored it. Of course im thinking im gonna beat him bad cuz i got more hp.... but to my suprise he starts to pull away. Is something wrong with my car? He only has 140 HP! mine is an AT and his is a MT. I cleaned out my intercooler and replaced the air filter. All he has is an air filter for mods. I thought i shouldve smoked him. The only things wrong with my car is worn engine mounts and a little leak in the transmission. What do i do?!?!

Also I have beaten several Manauls both FWD and AWD. Don't talk if you have never done it. You seem to be quoting statistics but not bench proven facts. Seriously man you sound stupid saying this when you have nothing to back up what you are saying.

Just because you own a DSM does not make you an expert. Just because you can spout stuff from a book does not make you a mechanic or an auto tranny expert.

In terms of Manual VS Automatic, I think they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Automatic is easier to use, and like Nightmare said it "eliminates the RPM loss between shifts thus maintaining the spool".

However, you put a expert shifter behind a manual transmission in the same vehicle and specs, that manual will win, why? You can max the RPMs in 3rd and 4th gear, and if the driver is good enough he can maintain the spool.

Bottomline, if you can't take advantage of your manual transmission, an automatic would be better suited.

Thats just my 1/2 cent opinion.

OK guys, real reasons behind autos used for racing ( at least drag anyways), is that the gears are constantly meshed together. not let off and slammed back together like a manual does when shifted. LESS DRIVELINE SHOCK AND BREAKAGE!!

WOW quite the potty mouth

1. You have been spouting off "facts" that you seem to think are soooo true when you are clearly wrong. You claim that the auto is so much worse than a manual yet you have never owned an auto DSM.

2. Autos do cause a loss in HP over the manual, that is common sense. My solution is make more HP. This isn't NASCAR we are not all equal.

3. I can downshift properly into corners if you know how to use an auto. Also I can use the "push-button" control panel that came with my level10 tranny. That would allow me to maximize the RPM range and shift when I want to rather than the TCU doing it for me.

4. Where are you getting your facts about gas mileage? Mine is great.

5. No I am not a Scholar but I do seem to know more about a DSM than you.

6. I will agree that a manual with the exact same mods would do better but like I said this is not NASCAR. I have lost to a T25 manual and I have beaten a 20G manual. I would say it has more to do with the tuner and the driver than anything else.

7. Manuals and Autos have thier own seprate advantages that is absolutely right. I would still agree that a manual is better but AUTOs do not suck like nushot claims they do.

8. YES Top Ramen is real good eatin

Fact is nushot that you should not spout off facts that you know nothing about. Your like that guy that goes around quoting the numbers about how much better turbo A is over turbo B because thats what you read in last months issue of Sport Compact Magazine. I told you that you were right that a manual was better than a AUTO if they were evenly modded. In fact it atually takes more to make an AUTO to hang with a manual. BUT AUTOs do not suck. I suggest you let this go because there is really nothing left to argue.

I know in my camaro with the shift kit and TC I can shift harder and better then any manual I have ever ran into, not sure if these can be done on my Talon though...Shifting at the same rpm the manuals do takes away most of they difference in racing..And even more important is the CONSISTANCY.

guys! new celicas are slow end of story... no turbo dsm should lose to it. Auto or not i have a manual tsi but i have also driven an auto. They are much slower but still faster than a celica. Either you can't drive or your car has a problem simple as that. It not even funny how mnay time si beat gts's with amy stock talon they run the quarter in 16 flat i smoke the hell out of them all the time. Its no competition they suck unless you have a turbo on it.
