Hey guys, haven't posted here for a while. I totalled my modified GST Spyder that on my profile 2 months ago, flipped over on a bridge. Scared like shit but everything was fine I'll go into more details with a new thread.
Basically I got a '96 GSX 5 speed 2 days ago with 85k miles. The car has aftermarket stronger clutch installed and the seller said the timing belt slipped at 80k miles and destroyed everything. So he did some head reconditioning (new guides, seals, valves and large oil hole, aftermarket non-ticking lifters), new timing belt and tensioner. He also put in 1G 60MM throttle body, semi ported opening for intake manifold, and semi ported opening in throttle body elbow.
The car runs fine but just some problems that I'm not sure if major:
- The engine sounds rough when under acceleration, not sure if it has anything to do with all the porting job and large oil hole he did? And the vacuum reading stays at 14 psi when idling instead of the normal 17psi I got on my old car.
- When the car idles, that's some squeaking noise from the timing belt area. But when I press the clutch in, the noise goes away, and comes back if the clutch is released. It doesn't happen when the car is in gear and moving though. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with crankwalk, but it doesn't do any of these common crankwalk symptoms:
- Clutch is dropped after a hard left turn.
- ticking noise from the timing belt area when clutch is pressed.
- RPM drop when clutch is pressed.
Sorry for the long post, nervous when got an used car. I'd appreciate any input, thanks guys!
