Recently had a new evo 3 16g turbo (tdo5h) installed on myh 97 tsi because the bullseye gave out on it. Anyways the way the previous owner had the boost controller set up is very confusing and Im sure someone here can help me out. He had a msd rpm activated window switched hooked into a dual stage turbo smart boost controller. Its hard to explain because Im new to dsms but he said something like there is one wire hooked into the window switch that can bypass the boost controller or you can use the bc by itself? Anyways without any adjustments my new 16g is peaking at about 19-20psi at full throttle. Is this safe as long as I just break the turbo in easy at first? Also Ive tried turning both the high and low boost setting on the controller all the way in but this seems to have no effect at all, I also tried adjusting the on/off rpm numbers on the switch but this also seemed to have no effect. Would the high/low settings on the boost controller need to be turned out some in order for the window switch to have any effect and be able to adjust them? Sorry for all the questions. IM not sure why this guy had to make it so complicated and not just put a single setting mbc on it.

IMO ditch the dual stage and just go with a proven manual boost controller. Especially if it is AWD. The only reason to really run a dual stage from what I can tell is if you were drag racing a FWD and were having issues with breaking the tires loose in the lower gears from too much boost/power. That way you can come out of the hole with lower boost to limit wheelspin and then bring up the boost on down the track when you can put down the power.

As long as the turbo is getting oil, give it hell.

I've literally had guys I've rebuilt turbos for pull out of my shop and do a launch and 30+psi pull down the road shortly after installing the turbo and verifying that it is getting oil and not leaking anywhere.

Well Id hate to have to buy a new mbc right now because I just dumped 600+ for the turbo+install but got layed off work not too long ago =/

Also I know its hard to answer some questions over the internet guys but from your experience is 20psi on a 16g and stock motor with just supporting mods of walbro fuel pump, 660 injecters, exhaust etc safe? It seems to run strong and not have any hesitation but I just dont wana f anything up. Only problem Ive had is the hose blowing off the j pipe on the turbo, but then I got a couple heavier duty clamps and that fixed it. Well besides the fact that after I fixed the one end of the hose the other end then blew off so Ill have to get some new clamps for that end.
