hey everyone,
so i've just installed a high performance clutch on my 95 talon tsi,
when i turned on the car, it was normal... the pedal seemed fine, and the cluch was doing okay "no gear grinding or anything"... but when i got the car to move, i started to smell a burning smell, it almost smelled like a clutch. so when i pushed the car to high RPM, the smell got stronger and stronger... so after pushing the car for 4 or 5 times, the clutch peddal got really sloppy, and it took time to adjust to its proper position after i press it... and now my car takes the gear, but wouldn't move, or if it moves, the tranny starts slipping as if i'm pressing the clutch.
can someone please help me through this...oh and also, i've changed the gear oil, and differencial oil when i installed the clutch.

I have a couple of questions first. (Please answer all of them)
  • What was this "high performance clutch"? (ACT, Competition, South Bend, Exedy, etc)
  • Did you bleed the system really, really good?
  • What type of clutch fluid did you use? (DOT 3, 4, 5, etc)
  • How long did you break it in before doing "high rpm pulls"?
  • Did you use a torque wrench on the pressure plate? (and alignment tool?)
  • Stock flywheel or aftermarket? (If aftermarket what type? Was it stepped?)
  • What else did you replace? (Throwout bearing, pivot ball, clutch fork, etc)

Sounds like its time for a new clutch. After smelling a burning clutch smell that should have been your first indicator to stop and check things out.

Also see if your clutch slave is pumping up by cracking the hard line going to it, a friends Dsm did this once.
