Bought a beautiful 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS a little while ago. Spectacular body with no rust, only done 93000 miles. A dream car for a person like me, so to speak:) The great thing about this car is that it is bone stock. Even has the stock exhaust on it. I haven't even gotten around to mess with it myself, besides remove that nasty license plate mount on the front, and balance the front tires to stop a nasty shake in the steering wheel. I'm itching to get something done on it, but money is a bit tight. My question is, what are the best possible performance modifications to this car, on a very strict budget? I was thinking on going the turbo route, with a 16G, a front mount, bigger injectors, and an exhaust, but that will be in a time when I can afford that. Right now, the only thing I'm looking for is some go-fast bits, without the big price. Thanks.

Cheap ebay intake, headers, and exhaust if you're on a budget. If you're not on a tight budget go with higher end I/H/E. Honestly though, if you're going to put money into the higher end NA stuff you might as well save that to turbo it. I did mine for a couple hundred with generic stuff off ebay to hold me over until I can get the money to drop the 2.4l with proper bolt ons.

Already took care of it. Belts, fluids, gaskets, etc. She runs like a million bucks. There might be a tire issue that I should look into, considering they're almost bald, but since it's summer soon, and I don't expect to be driving in nasty weather.

How much was the "couple hundred" at your end? With what I keep seeing, a couple hundred can turn into a couple thousand quite quickly, LOL.

The parts themselves only cost total a couple hundred. You can get a generic complete exhaust including header, high flow cat, and muffler (piping, of course) for around $180 or so and intakes run 40-90 bucks. These include shipping. I'm no mechanic and I was able to put these in place. You may end up needing an O2 sensor or two but that's not 100%. Of course this doesn't include any tuning equipment. These are just bolt-ons that, from my reading, should give you a few extra HP without having to do any tuning. I've only had these mods myself for a total of about a month but when I put the header on it was an immediate improvement. I was running a K&N filter on stock intake so putting an actual intake on didn't give much more performance wise but it sounds faster, LOL.

other then the above mentioned MAINTENANCE, I would say your better of to start a 6 bolt engine build and just drive it while doing so. maybe an exhaust system and an intake for a little better air flow but nothing major. Start the build now and do it for a long term goal... usually between 400-600hp and then you will be glad you waited. Also, remember that with FWD you will have to upgrade them shafts and get some good suspension. just my two cents...
