Read in a thread on here that when you replace the clutch, you replace the flywheel too. Like its a maintance item. They said it was a mitsubishi thing.

Is this true? Replacing the clutch soon and need to find out if I need a flywheel.

I was just going to resurface it.

Thanks

No you just need to have it resurfaced, unless its really bad, but just have it cleaned up, and your good to go.

the only time you resurface or replace a flywheel is if it shudders or just have a lot of miles on it

When my 1.8 was alive, I replaced the factory clutch at 315k (wasn't even slipping i guess that's a plus of 110 ft-lbs of torque), and just busted the glaze with some lite sandpaper. Trick some old redneck taught me. Actually worked tho.

I don't know if I believe this.

Whenever my trans is out, I usually get the flywheel resurfaced or atleast measure if it is in spec. The MOST IMPORTANT THING, is the flywheel step height.

I usually have them resurface it to the highest step height as this helps with disengagement issues which dsms like to do.

RRE's Clutch And Flywheel Tech Info
Please read this to fully understand step height and what it does!

Take it out, look at the flywheel. Does it have any marks, cracks?
No questions, go resurface it.

Why risk a 40$ resurface on a 1200$+ transmission?

.610 if you are using a stock flywheel with and aftermarket clutch like an act. I believe stock is .608-.610, you want it at .610 I believe but honestly if your car is stock and going to stay that way you would be better off going to autozone and buying the clutch kit they sell for under $100. Not sure what the stock clutch HP limit is but I think it's around 240-260hp. Also replace the clutch release bearing, for stock parts you should be looking at $130 max for everything. Do it right and replace everything while your in there because why have to do it a second time?
Vfaqs has everything http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html
HEre is the link to removing the tranny http://www.vfaq.com/mods/clutch-1G.html
and make a bracket to get the flywheel off, home stores sell brackets you could modify.
