need to find engine block plug

i need to time my engine and i already have gotten all the timing marks aligned but in my haynes repair manual it says to unscrew the engine block plug and see if a screw driver will fit 2 1/2 inches in there to see if its timed right but i cannot find the plug they are talking about, any help is appreciated

On all my blocks its just a 12MM bolt that is there randomly.
 
On the firewall side of the block there is a bolt on the other side of the ballance shaft. this is what your manual is refering to.

Correct. All this is doing is making sure that your rear balance shaft is in the correct position. Even though it could be lined up, the balance shaft could be 180 out.

thank you for the help, but is the bolt on the driver or passenger side of the engine?
