need some help on possible trade

I have found a pretty nice 1g eclipse fwd turbo I may be able to do a straight trade for. I am wondering how much and what kind of fees would be involved? I am in nc. I know if you buy a car it's like 3% of the cars value I believe but, I have no clue how much money I am looking at on an even trade? Thanks for the help guys!

If you do an even trade all you have to do is get it inspected (if it doesn't have a good sticker, if your state does that), Insurance which you will just trade out with the other car, and registration. Registration is where you are going to pay the taxes on whatever you "say" you payed for it. Also is this car in good running order remember DSM's are very pleasing cars as long as you do the correct maintnance and stay on top of it. I would say $100 and you would be on your way. Also you will just need to switch the tags from the old car to the new one that will save you from buying more tags.

I would most certainly pass. Hold out for a AWD 1G. Your Firebird is worth considerably more than a 1G or 2G FWD. If that Firebirds in good shape with a V8 it would fetch around $3500 - $4000 in Indianapolis (just as an example). I can get a 1G FWD for a little over a grand, and a 2G FWD for $1200. On the other hand, I can get a good 1G AWD for $2200 - $2400, and a 2G AWD for practically the same price, in Indy still. Either way, I wouldn't do a even trade. Truth be told, you'd be better off selling your Firebird, then using that money for a clean 1G.

If you are willing to drive around, you'd be surprised how cheap quality DSM's sell for. If you limit yourself to a geographical area, you might end up paying more.

I agree... fwd's+high hp= poor from buying tires and axles. I loved my fwd's dont get me wrong but if i had to pick....AWD any day of the week unless I was suuuuuper trashed and had no idea what I was even talking about.

It seems to be in good shape with a fresh rebuild on the trans,newer b16g turbo,3inch turbo back,255 fuel pump,new battery&starter,new maf,k&n,ngk plugs and wires,adjustable wastgate,new clutch etc.

Even with those mods, it's still FWD. The thing that made the DSM platform what it is was not only the engine, but the AWD drivetrain to lay the power down. Don't get me wrong - there's been some very impressive numbers laid down by guys in FWD. However, when the AWD option exists, I just don't see a point in going FWD, IMHO.

You might as well start with the best that you can get... it will save you money and headaches down the road.
