So I got this TSi about 2 weeks ago and it has some problems but what i thought were small problems.

Got those worked out and the night before we took it to a shop, Turbo finally boosted and then what seemed to me, fuel cut happened, car just shut off and took a couple of tries to get it started again. Was driving it home and fuel cut happened again. So next day took it to a shop to see what else is up. The Guy said some lifters were ticking and it was missing moter and granny mounts. Along with some other things like plug wires and valve cover and some pulley tensioners. Well the total came out to be $1800. Which i thought was ridiculous but oh well bit the dirt and paid it.
Well got the car yesterday and it started up with no squeaks anymore but when i started to drive it, there was now a loud tick coming from the engine and the mech said it was going to do that until the other lifters are replaced. I'm like ok, well it will still at least get me around town until i get more money, he assured me that would be right. He said no more fuel cuts or anything of that sort. Sweet working again!

Well no, driving it to work, didn't even boost up this time and bam fuel cut happened again and this time couldnt get it to start after 30 minutes.

What could be the problem with the fuel cut or whatever is happening? Why is there now a loud tick after "being fixed" when there wasn't one before going into the shop.
Engine just shot now?

I just want to know what's up from the real DSM guys and not this mechanic because i think he is just screwing me.

Thanks in advance

This is why you dont bring your car to a shop and ask them to fix it..

What turbo are you running? how much boost? What injectors? How do you have your SAFC set? Have you performed a BLT? Your issue could be something simple as a boost leak.

Most mechanics dont know anything about turbocharged cars, So asking one to fix a tuning issue is one of the worst things you can do. Unless of course you go to a tuner shop, there are many in the area.
spending 1800 for wires, valve cover gasket, pulleys, and random work done is just insane.

These guys are good with tuning. Although they love hondas, They work with high horsepower turbocharged vehicles all day. I would recommend you let the forums find your problem before taking it to another mechanic.

Turbo is a Garret T3. I believe its stock injectors (ouch i know). I'm not even sure how to set the SAFC (noob i know). And i haven't ran a boost leak test yet.

LOL dude,

Your fuel cut problems are now coming into view....

To you have your stock BCS hooked up? How do you control your boost? If you are running more than stock(no wastegate?!) you WILL have fuel cut and damage your engine.

There is no boost gauge in the car? I think you need to do some research on how your car works. It sounds like you can fix this problem really fast and easy if you just knew what to look for.

The T3 flows alot more than the stock t25 turbo. You run the risk maxing out your injectors causing fuel cut with anything over 12-14 psi.

You can fix it, just dont give up!!

Stay off of the boost untill you get this fixed. You can and will hurt something if you run your car with no wastegate. just take it easy and shift at low rpm. When you feel the turbo spooling, Let off the gas...

If you don't have a wastegate u must get one. I'm not sure how your car is setup but if u have the wastegate housing blocked off, then you will just keep boosting higher and higher until somethig gives. If the wastegate flange is open then it'll hardly if at all create any boost. Get that
Fixed and if you are still having problems we know where were at.

So get a wastegate, a boost gauge and some injectors? What else i want and kinda need this thing up and running :-( haha.

You dont need injectors until you get everything else figured out. Number 1 priority should be getting a wastegate. PLEASE STAY OFF THE BOOST until you get one.. After you get your wastegate, Get a Boost gauge and a boost controller or you can get a stock BCS to keep your boost at stock levels. Right now, you are going to be pushing 25 + PSI on a stock(ish) setup, this is bad...

After you get your car running right, Then you can mess around with injectors and such.:hellyeah:

Next time your car shuts off, Check for spark and fuel. Also, follow this guide...http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-miscellaneous/217951-how-diagnose-no-start.html

Are you in Parker or pueblo?

right now for the winter I'm in Pueblo.

Turbo Manual Boost Controllers <--------Boost controller (homemade version)

TD05H Turbo <-------------14b turbo with internal wastegate.

There on tons of parts on CL..just look around!

Thanks for the link for those, will probably be getting both, since I can get a stock 2g ported mani for $30 here in Pueblo.

The only pic of the engine bay I have at the moment would be this one (car is at the shop yet again and the bastard closed early and couldnt get the car from him):

So question, what do you think I should do...

Keep my current setup, or go back to stock 14b turbo and stock mani and sell the T3 turbo and mani??

Something in my mind is saying go back to stock, this T3 setup seems complicated (maybe its just me) but nothing seems to "fit" right to me. But then again, it seems like just a wastegate that is needed... (possibly.)

The Oil return line from the turbo is also leaking pretty bad because the previous owner thought they could use the stock return line (WRONG!) So I'm ordering that part for sure.

Not sure where

what you SHOULD do is, definatly fix that bov to intake mess you got going on there..that black hose looking thing thats on your cold air intake goes onto your blow off valve. thats a start. and ya i think you should go to the stock turbo for now till you do some research and get familiar with these cars

I have been wanting one for a long time and now, just getting one and learning what to do, the BOV is now recirculated, that picture was before I bought the car, so that is fixed now.

The nipple coming off the valve cover seems like a vacuum line, where does that go, doesnt it go back to the intake?

ya, goes back to intake..

Found a T25 turbo used with about 74k original miles on it. Low price, should I try for it?
What do you think. Should I go ahead and try for it?
