Alright, as most of you know I have my boost controller tee'd off of my BoV. I had no problem with it until today. Hooked up a Turbo XS boost controller since my previous one decided to get stuck (wouldn't tighten or loosen up). I did nothing but disconnect 1 boost controller and connect another, now the car idles horribly and according to my SAFC idles at 450-480 which is horrible. I played around with the idle speed screw, sometimes it jumps up to 580 then right back down to 450 (idled at around 700-800 before). Is there anyway the Turbo XS boost controller is affecting this? I heard that they usually cause a pretty bad vacuum leak if teed off of the BoV. Before my car was at 15 vaccum on average and, now my vacuum bounces between 5 and 0.

I just want to make 100% sure this is the problem before purchasing tubing so I can hook the boost controller to a throttle body nipple.

Yeah, getting 10 feed of hose today and getting my boost source from the throttle body nipples. They're a good boost source, so hopefully that fixes the problem.

Anyone else got any input? Did me teeing off the BoV with a Turbo XS boost controller the reason why this crap happened? If any of you haven't had any problems doing this with this type of boost controller then could it be something else :hmm:

your vacuum is a little low even before the boost controller swap.
when is the last time you checked for boost leaks?

Not too long ago, no boost leak what so ever. Even when I first got the car it was usually at 15 vacuum.

Turbo XS is a bleeder style of boost controller I believe.. ( If it has three Nipples ) So I'm guessing you had a ball and spring type before. All you did was create a vacuum leak with the new boost controller. With running solid Vacuum line to your BOV ( Because it sees vacuum from the intake manifold ) and using a boost only reference ( Anything before the Throttle body ) for the MBC, you will fix the problem.

Yeah, as far as I know it is. I gotta check the timing marks, the car has been running with the same 15 vacuum since I got it over 2 years ago, all the cylinders have 150+ compression, I check the compression at least once every week or 2 (I'm extremely anal when it comes to it). If the timing was off, specially for this long, the chances of destroying my valves is rather big, so I don't think timing is it.

HHMMM...

Go ahead and make your Vacuum line to the BOV Solid again and run that MBC between a Boost only Reference and the Wastegate and see what happens to the idle..

Yeah, I'm hoping that's it. If it isn't I have no idea what it could be.

The TurboXS mbc has a plastic set screw in it that has a tendency to strip out and cause some nasty problems. I don't know this from personal experience but I was informed of this when I asked a friend his opinion about it(I had originally inquired about purchasing one)
