need some advice what to look for

brother picked up a 1990 awd turbo talon ....
Rad was blown whole top , was gone..Car was over heated plastic over spark plugs and timing cover was melted ....
Tomorrow i will be ripping into it the wires behind the vc are fine all wires to cas are fine ..The car will not start , i will be doing a compression test tomorrow what else should i be testing or looking at ?
so far
compression test , fuel and spark check
check for any thing else melted
replace tstat , and radiator , as well as sensors for rad and coolant

oh man if it melted like that I hope your block isnt warped. I would basically do an entire run down of the engine.

I would just go ahead and pull the head. If it got that hot than the head gasket is likely very blown and the head very warped. The block might even be warped, or worse cracked. I would also inspect the bearings for damage.

the head gasket did not go already tossed coolant in double checked the oil , That seems fine ..i have spare heads if it is the problem ...The story was the guy was drunk started it for heat woke up and car wouldn't start , rad blew ..Only 113,000 kms also

That is some crazy heat. Maybe see if any wiring/parts is salvageable

Started ripping into it today , Wow the spark plug wires melted in the holes had to smash all the plastic off to pull a plug , just to do a compression check ..No compression ..Ripping of the head to check the damage , head will be off in the morning ..I cant believe the whole car didn't burn down, one injector clip melted all 3 of the fuel rail bolts were white white , no other wiring melted ...Of course the tbelt is lose so i think it jumped timing for sure ....Also did find the top rad hose full of metal shavings but the bottom doesn't have any ..When i pulled the valve cover off there was one of the sickest smells i have ever smelt had everyone gagging

I would also see if the plastic on the ignition coils is melted. I've had coils in that kind of condition and had to replace them both.

checked the coils they are fine on the other side , still have to replace them of course ..

Well got the head off today .... The head gasket was still good WOW keeping this strong head gasket ,still looks brand new ...But of course the timing slipped , bad , bent valves Almost all of them ...Cake walk then right ,...OF course not cylinder 1 and 4 are good , 2 and 3 whole different story ..Cylinders walls dont looked warped but the pistons must be warped bad or , or cylinder walls are warped and i am blind, i can fit a smaller robertson in one the other only a flat head ,surface of head and block are still flat ..
