Couldn't post this in the drivetrain forums, so here is my dilemma.

I have a 1992 eagle talon n/t fwd and the transmission has split in two. I've read about people using the 2g awd transmissions in 1g awd DSM's, but I was wondering if this can be done with the fwd n/t DSM's. My transmission is the stock 5 speed manual, or was anyways....

This is my daily driver so I need a transmission solution quick. Please give me all the info. you can on this, I've researched a ton on my Talon, and do ALL the mechanic work to it myself.

Thanks in advance for the help,
Chris

The N/T 2G transmission is reversed from the 1G N/T, in other words they can't be swapped. A Turbo 2G trans may work if the driveshaft splines are the same. You can however use a Fourth Generation Mirage (91-96)transmission. I am pretty sure the Mirage or Turbo FWD transmission can be used with your engine. Is your car a 1.8 or 2.0?

+1 this is true

I have the 2.0 4g63 engine. I was hoping the 2G tranny would work so I could hopefully get ahold of a "better" shifting transmission. So would I be better off trying to find a turbo 2G and using that transmission, or using the Mirage transmission?

Thank you for the quick replies

The non turbo 2g is a 420a engine and can't be swapped over to a 1g 4g63 engine. However since you are a 1g N/T and you have a 4g63 you should be able to use any FWD turbo tranny from a 2g

The turbo 2G is going to have a better syncro setup and better general reliability due to the beefed up design. The Mirage has a single syncro on first but will work with your axles, oh and I'm talking about a 1.8 Mirage not the 1.5. You will probably have to do some hybrid axles to fit the 2G turbo trans. I'd think your local junkyard would have a DSM trans for you. Are you looking for an upgrade rather than a straight replacement?

How many splines are on the 2G 4g63 transmission? Also, what of the 6 bolt to 7 bolt complications involving the flywheel mounting up, will this cause a problem?

Alright, I'm going to try and use a 2g transmission to upgrade from the 1g transmissions. After removing the original transmission, I found that the flywheel is completely shot. What kind of flywheel should I go with for my n/t 4g63? this is my daily driver, and I want to upgrade a bit if possible.
