Need Opinions on whether to buy **LONG**

I am currently looking at buying a 95 talon tsi 2wd automatic. This thread is to get your opinions on what it is worth and what it will cost to get repaired. This car is not for me to race but rather for me to get back and forth to work in. It is being sold by a friend of mine who needs to get rid of it before it gets impounded because it has been stationary for almost a year. The car has 128000 miles on it and runs well except for the smoke. When it is fired up if you wait approx 1 minute it will start blowing smoke not a lot but noticable. When you rev the motor it turns into a very large plume of smoke. The guy that owns it said that it is the turbo, and what I have read on this site seems to verify that diagnosis. I am mechanically inclined enough to pull the turbo but I don't believe I have the patience or tools to rebuild it myself. What is the average cost of having a turbo rebuilt and who is a reputable service to send it to? The other problem with the car is the body damage, the drivers rear qtr panel need to be replaced and the door pillar needs to be straightened <the car skidded into a f350 in some bad weather, did not hurt the truck>. The door is fine but i can see the latch from outside the vehicle because of the pillar. I am waiting on an estimate from another friend for repairing this. There is surprisingly no suspension damage from the wreck. I did drive the car around the block and besides the 007 effects behind me everything else seemed normal. In your opinions is it worth $1000?

I would grip it..You say the turbo is messed up? Well you can get a t25 off of dsmtrader for about 150 bucks. It will be used yes but it will work. I think its a good deal. Talk him down some more he might even give it to u for 500 if hes that desperate.

I agree with Eclipse. $1000 is a good deal.
Owners of FWD Auto DSMs know they won't be able to get much for their cars, since it's the worst combo for a tuner. See if you might be able to talk him down a little bit... chances are you will find other things that need fixing soon afterwards.
But T25s can be had for very little. A 14b may not be a horrible option at that point either. Just run some new lines and bolt her up--wouldn't cost a whole lot more, and a nice upgrade in case someone gives you crap on the highway.

I appreciate your help, but unfortunately I had my body shop guy look at the car today and he said that with the amount of time it would have to spend on the frame machine, that I could buy one that wasn't wrecked and be driving it tomorrow. I am going to talk to the seller about parrts from the car and if he wants me to I will post them online for him. Once again I appreciate your assistance.

Dude, buy that thing and part it out..You would be so amazed on what DSM guys will buy. They will buy the hazard and defrost buttons in the car for godsakes :laugh: My cousin bought a wrecked ass 95gst 5spd and it was bad the engine was cracked and noting on the exterior was intact. He got it for 650 and to date he has sold 2200 worth of parts so far. All through DSMtrader.com Its up to you though you gata have the patience and a little experience with these cars to take all the stuff out and you gata find someone to take the car to the junkyard after its stripped. Just an idea before you pass up a good deal. Good Luck

I would be interested in some of the parts......trans, and maybe some of the interior pieces. BUY THAT CAR and sell it on EBAY, or DSMTRADER. You could make some change. There is something on that car that just about every one of us could use.....
