Ok, so I bought a 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD for $300
Im a huge DSM fan, so this was a steal!
Of course, this is not a running car.
The guy I bought it from said that the ECU was stolen from it, and that is all I will need to get the car up and running.
So I bought one from Ebay, but the only one I could get my hands on was for a MANUAL TRANSMISSION!

I know that with the automatic transmission the turbo is smaller (13b) and the fuel injectors are 390cc
And for the Manual the turbo is 14b and 450cc fuel injectors

What will I need to do for my car to get it running with the ECU I just purchased?
Will it run without any modification?!?!

Thanks

Your car will run with that ECU, without any modifications, it just might run a little rich. However, the ECU should be able to compensate for it somewhat. All you'll need is to find a set of 450's from ebay for like $50 and it will be fine. OR if you want to keep the car stock, I have a 91 AWD ECU for an Automatic just sitting on my workbench, I'll trade you and split the shipping if you're interested.

Thanks Brad
Sent you PM
I might just take you up on that offer
I am going to see how the car runs with the manual ecu in there
then I may need to do the trade with you

With the turbo being smaller will this cause any problems with the manual tranny ECU???

WOW :thumb: That is an awsome deal!!!!!!!, I almost got an Nice 88 Starion(conquest) TSI,5 speed, 98k, for $350, but was late getting to the auto auction

I have been useing an auto car ecu for 2 years now with no problems at all(it was newly rebuilt). But I would do the trade with SURFNNTURF, for sure.

Does the car run good???? What are the miles on it????

Make sure you check the timing belt AND the Ballance shaft belt, I bought my TSI 2 years ago and was told the belts were newer, Well a few days ago, the T-belt jumped 3 teeth, so I took it in to get fixed, and found out the Ballance shaft belt was broke and jamed in there somehow(they think it is the factory belt, it had never been changed, the car has 130k on it).
I got luck, no bent valves(somehow????

Check them, or get them checked, never believe the seller.

The TCU works completely independant of the ECU. It won't be affected by using a manual ECU in an Auto car.

i just sold an automatic 92 tsi awd with a 5 speed ecu in it and the only problem i could find, is that when you are at full throttle the car was so rich that it fell on its face, compared to a roll into throttle response, i changed the injectors and the car ran sweet. but on the other hand i put a automatic ecu in a 5 speed and the car ran better than the 5 speed ecu in a 5 speed car, only because the car was unmodded, and it ran closer to 14.7-1

Brad, shouldn't you run lean instead of rich? Unless I'm missing something.

Bruce,

For some strange reason my car ran rich, this was before I did any serious mods. Idle seemed OK and my logger showed my LOW fuel trim was close to 90-95% but the MID and HI trims were pegged at 81%. IM guessing that it had something to do with the stock FPR and the programming for fuel pressure on the different ECU's. As I remember the 1g Auto ECU is programmed for a base fuel pressure of 43psi., and a 1g 5speed ECU is programmed for a base fuel pressure of 36-37psi. I think the 5speed ECU is looking to control fuel at 36psi but if the stock FPR for an auto is still on the fuel rail then the injectors are seeing 43psi causing a rich condition at MID and HI throttle with Boost.

I just double checked my info with the tech article on tuning by djpast, I think I got it right..

That's the part I was missing, you're the man. :thumb:

My ECU is scheduled to be here on the 8th of December. I will drop everything I am doing as soon as it gets here and put it in!
Then run back to you guys and tell you how its running
Thanks for your help!
