ok i was test driving the car, so i wanted to see kinda what it had. So. i came to a complete stop and poped the clutch at or around three thousand rpms. took off and shifted in to second at like seven thousand rpms and then third around the rev limter and the tach needle went all the way around and then the car started to jump and die, so i came to a stop before it died and then it died. i get out and smelt something that was hot. and so i get down and look under the car and the catalic converter is cherry red. so i let it cool down and the car wont start. i cut the cat. off today and it still wont start. the car will crank but wont turn over. its getting gas but i didnt see a spark. whats the problem? did i screw the coil pack up, or the ecu or what? someones help will greatly be appreciated.please email with help at [email protected] thanks for your time :laser:

How did you check for spark? Are you sure you had it grounded good enough? If you took the rpm's high enough you could have floated a valve, which would be easily visible if you took the valve cover off.

did u get that last message i sent u? im new to this so i dont know how to send messages

Check your power transistor... or whatever its called...
Its the plug I circled below. It might look like its hooked up, but tug on the wire and see if it comes off. If it does, push it back on and make sure it snaps back in. My GST did the same thing to be when I got it. Took me two days in 33* rain to figure it out.....

edit: I mean you blew your engine, better sell it to be before you do more damage OMG

did your gst do exactly what my car did?
like , my tach was at 7,500 and then it went all the way around like through nine to zero

Yeah, it freaked out on me. Went all the clockwise to 3k rpm then back came back to 0 and stalled. It would turn over for me, but I could never get it started (plugs wrent getting spark).

that sounds like that could be it then, thanks and i hope thats all it is.
i havnt bought the car yet b/c of that, but im going too if thats all it is. the car is a 95 talon tsi awd, with 160,000 miles with all new stuff like belts , starter resurfaced clutch, and much more. body is in perfect condition considering its a 95 model. he is asking three thousand for it, sound like a good deal? i think so

Yeah, $3000 sounds like an awesome deal... provided the car is in good shape. Do a compression test, and take off the oil cap and see what the oil on the cams look like, and maybe even let it run w/o that cap on there so you can hear whats going on inside the head.

Hope I solved your problem.

Yeah, it shouldnt cost more than like $20

All they need to do is take out your plugs and turn the car over with a pressure gauge where the sparkplug wires would go. You can build your own too... Ill see If I can find a link for you

i just looked at ur talon and it looks nice, mine is red too, but what kind of bumper is on urs?

3000 is a real good deal...just make sure it isnt crankwalking...LOL...ive been threw that...LOL...
