I was doing a modification under my fuse box that required grounding one of the wires coming off the bottom of my fog light relay. They desired outcome was for my fog lights to stay on while the high beams were on. I get it done, turn the headlights on and I have no fog lights. I undid my modification. The wiring is now back to factory. I still have no fog lights. My fog lights worked fine prior to this modification... i put a relay in the fog light socket that I know for sure is a good relay. I also checked the fuse and it is good. The relay doesn't click when I hit the fog light switch. Any ideas??

Is this a 1g without daytime running lights? Assuming so, were you trying to ground the fog relay red/blue wire (pin 2)? That would be correct but if you grounded the solid red wire (pin 4) instead, as soon as you switched the headlights on and the fog lights on, the 10A fuse should have blown and/or the diode C-13 blown due to it now being a short.

Yes it's a 1g. And yes it was the red/blue wire that I grounded. I grounded it on the Relay side. Not the harness side. The write up I looked at didn't specify which side to ground so I grounded the Relay side of the wire.

Also i should add, I jumped the wire from the fog light relay to the alternator relay as shown here and the fog lights worked whenever the key is on like it said it would. Switched back to factory wiring and still no fog lights...

I did the short wire jump

Sorry about the link. I'll port of a pic in just a minute..

I mean I cut the red/blue wire under the Relay and I grounded the side of the cut wire that went to the Relay rather than the cut end of the wire that went to the harness. Make sense?

Only reason I'm griping about it is because I want to be able to disable/enable the fog lights with the switch like from factory. Otherwise I'd just jump those two wires to have them on whenever the key is on...

Yes ok. That is the correct thing to do. I assume you put the relay back in. That should have worked provided the fog light switch is still factory connected and turned on. With headlight switch on, measure voltage on the green wire of the fog light switch. I'm betting you don't have any because you burned out the C-13 diode (perhaps when you did the jumper thing between terminal 4 and 7).

Your terminals 4 and 7 match nothing in the diagrams manual so I can't tell what you really jumpered. The alt relay uses pins 2 and 4 of a 4 pin connector - not pins 5, 6, and 7. And it shouldn't be where you should jumper to anyway.

The fogs worked fine prior to this modification. I didn't jump the wire until I found out the fogs wouldn't power on. So maybe something just happened to go bad right when I did the grounding mod. He'll of a coincidence tho LOL

If all you did was ground the red/blue that should have worked. Note that it's easy to get the pin mixed up when looking at the relay socket from the top because looking from the bottom (where the wire is) the pins appear in different places (eg. lower left on bottom is lower right on top). That's why I asked if you accidentally grounded the solid red which would have blown the inside seat belt 10A fuse and/or diode. You should check that fuse with a multimeter to make sure it's not blown.

This grounding the red/blue turns fog lights on when both headlights are on (either hi or lo) and fog light switch is on which I assume is what you want. It does not keep fog lights on all the time when engine is running (like daytime running lights). Attached is the wire diagram. To troubleshoot, turn headlight (column) switch on and fog light switch on and start measuring voltages from the column lighting switch (green/white) to the column lighting switch (blue/yellow) to the fog light switch (green) to the fog light relay (red). Where's there's no voltage there's the problem. This assumes the fog lights, fog light relay, and fog light fuse, and wiring are working.

The fuse is a 15 amp unless you're talking an out a different fuse than what I'm seeing... where is the diode? I replaced the fuse now that it's factory wired again and it still doesn't work. I also replaced the relay. Still no luck. Where is this diode that you speak of?

Look on the diagram you'll see fuse #1 is a 10A one. That's the one most likely blown. It's the one in the lower left of this picture: http://www.dsmtuners.com/attachments/fuse-box-cover-jpg.19902/. If it isn't blown you'll need to do voltage checks as I said to see where problem is.

The diode is supposed to be somewhere under dash passenger side, possibly above foot lamp. That's all you can tell from the location diagram. It may actually look like a connector with those color wires on it. But check fuse and do voltage checks first before assuming the diode.

Hahahahahahahaha..... I just remembered that I took that 10 amp fuse out two days ago hoping it would disable the auto seat belts..... I'm gonna put the fuse back in and see if that fixes it ;) i didn't realize that it also powered the fog lamps

I know this is a popular gm thing to do "headlight all on mod" but just an FYI high, low and fogs are designed the way they are for good reason, your safety. High beam illumination corresponds with higher vehicle speeds and average reaction time. Meaning where you're focusing should not be 10 feet out when traveling 65mph = no reaction time. Don't kid yourself, you won't be as focused on the high beam lit area vs fog+high beam combo area.

Same with those retarded pos hid 'PNP' kits, they totally screw your distance vision.

...so he still can run hi beams w/o fogs if he chooses.

...They desired outcome was for my fog lights to stay on while the high beams were on.

Only reason I'm griping about it is because I want to be able to disable/enable the fog lights with the switch like from factory. Otherwise I'd just jump those two wires to have them on whenever the key is on...

Well no matter the intention -that's my story and I'm stickin to it.

I'll go crawl back under my rock now, as it appears I'm not welcome here :)

So I know this thread is 10yrs old....LOL. My 1990 GSX has a push button switch to turn on fog light but button does not lock down. I push it in and hold it down and fog lights light up. I'm guessing by pushing button it triggers a relay to keep them on and when pushing button in again it triggers them back off🤷‍♂️

It's been a while since I've heard about a broken fog light switch.

This thread is about the modification you can do that keeps the fog lights on when you switch the high beams on.

You want a different thread like https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/fog-light-switch-problem.158201/ or https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/1g-fog-light-switch-fix.235178/
