okay about a week ago drove my car to work ran fine, had been stalling a bit when i came to complete stops, and sometimes at idal. thought it was just cause it has been cold. like around 10-13*f, anyways after work i get in my car turn the key motor turns over but wont start. so i hold the gas down try again starts up but wont idal without stalling, so i figure maybe it was flooded. so i reved it a bit seem to help, it started to idal. so i go to pull out car dies and wont start, so i try to get it going, end up killing the battery trying to start it. so i have to have the car towed to my house, i take out the spark plugs there pretty dirty. so i replace them and i replaced the wires just to be safe, well charge up the battery clean the post off. so make along story short 3 days later i get the car running the garage filled with a ton of black smoke and before it started there was a sorta sweet smell coming from the exaust. once it started ran fine for a day or 2. now it died again and i got it running again but my rpm gauge wont work. so anyone have any ideas about whats goin on?! everyone told me it was the fuel pump. but it's getting plenty of fuel maybe to much. also sometimes when i start the car there seems to be a small popping noise in the engine. like a mini backfire. kinda sounds like it's over by the battery side. i thought it might be the injectors or maybe some electrical problem. but everything is stock on my 95 eclipse gs 2.0L nt any help is apreciated i can also try and give better info if you need to know more. i notice alot of people have the stalling problem and the black carbon stuff coming out of exaust during idal warm up. well thanks again.

well, I'm not familiar with the 420a engines (I assume that is what you have), but I imagine that you have a blown head gasket...

I'm guessing that sweet smell is anti-freeze...

Anyhow, compression check all the cylinders and make sure they are in spec, and if you can, do a leak down...those should tell you whether or not your hg is fine.

Good luck man
