I've gone from stock to near the end of stage 1 in the past week installing parts on my little beast. I performed all the maintenance listed in the forums pre-stage 1 mods on my beast (41K original miles ļ ). I installed the Hallman EVO RX (soft spring for starting) as described in the Hallman manual (compressor housing port in and wastegate act. Out on MBC). The Greddy Type-S BOV is installed with the top most nipple line ran to the intake manifold front nipple. The rest of my mods can be viewed in the profile. Note that the exhaust is getting put on this weekend (damn corroded cat bolts).

The problem is that even with the boost turned ALL the way down my boost gauge pretty damn near jumps to 20psi after a mild press on the gas in 2nd gear so I am popping it into nuteral and saying a lot. Now as for the BOV I have it softened up quite a bit from the factory setting.

Also when I turn off the car the boost gauge chills at 6psi and idling about -4.

What do I do?

PS: I first tried the MBC ¡V BOV config as shown in Link 1 and the Boost Guage is installed like Link 2

PS2: The manual for greddy tpe-s BOV came entirely in Japanese and I can't find a manual online. But I read on the forum to soften it all the way, run the car idle, then tighten it until you don¡'t hear hissing. I just softened it up but didn't hear hissing.

Ya, I got to thinkin more about it and I pulled my boost gauge out of the column and disconnected everything to it... low and behold with it chillin in my palm the damn week old $112 gauge was reading 6.5psi. I was like you little...

I wander if my wastegate was damaged to but I guess I'll see when I get the gauge replaced.

so wait all of that and the boost gauge was broke that sucks man sorry to hear that you just spent the money for nothing i would take it back or call someone and start yelling LOL :dsm:

I'm new to turbo charging. Is it normal for a $100 dash ornament (ok important monitoring tool) to break? What are other people using?

If I understand what your stating, you're wastegate shouldn't have been affected. The 20psi you saw probably(not guaranteed) was only a 13.5psi run...if your guage was 6.5psi off. That's just about what I saw with your level of mods at the stock boost level(14-14.5psi is what I saw)

To be on the safe side, be gentle with it until you get a working boost guage back in there(with the MBC)(set MBC at lowest setting). Or rehook your lines back to stock for a little extra margin of safety(until you get a working guage).

Good luck

I've got that same gauge, but mine when off sits at 0. Works good for me. Like said above, it seems to be reading right, its just it thinks 0 is 6.5 psi. When idle, you say you are at -4, which is basically 7 notches from 6.5. If at 0, seven notches down puts you right where you should be at idle... return that sucka! :rocks:
