My buddy has a 96 GST and it has a spun rod bearing. What all parts do i need to order to complete this rebuild myself? I already know the crank probably needs replaced, but a small chance it doesnt. i know i need bearings, the knock is not very loud like other dsms i have heard with spun bearings! From start to finish what all do i need? please help

Crank will definitely need to be polished or cut. If it needs to be cut more than .020 under, it's trash.
Possibly new rods or at least reconditioned.
If you pull the pistons they will need new rings and the block needs to be honed at minimum. Boring might be needed as well depending on the cylinder wear.
Even if the block is straight, have it hot tanked and have the oil galleys scrubbed.
Bearings of course. What size will be determined by what you do with the crank: Cut or replace.
I'd advise a new oil pump, timing belt, and all components while you have it out. Maybe even a clutch.
Head should be cleaned, resurfaced, and inspected. Possibly have the valves lapped and new seals/guides installed.
Engine gasket set
Turbo mounting gasket set
Manifold gaskets
Head gasket (with studs if not already installed)
A tube of RTV Black for oil pan and other gaskets

That's pretty much an entire rebuild right there unless I'm forgetting something. Your friend wouldn't have any problems with that engine for a very long time if everything I mentioned was done and done correctly.

Remove the engine, full disassembly including all oil galley plugs in the head and block.

The crank may be saved if it can be ground .25mm
The rods will need to be checked for round on the big end.

Parts needed
Full set of gaskets
Proper sized rod and main bearings
Oil pump

may as well do rings and timing and waterpump

You may add
Arp Head studs
