I came home from a 15 mile drive to this sound as I was driving down my street... First thins I seen was that my PS belt was loose, then after taking a closer look I noticed that the bolt that holds the bracket that the PSP bolts onto was missing. I replaced the bold, and bolted the PSP back on. Started her up and the sound was still there. I took off the crank pulley thinking that maybe the bolt was down there dancing around but I didn't see anything. Now I don't know what to do...

Thats the sound of a bad balance shaft bearing, or you have a spun rod bearing!
I would take your oil filter off, cut it open and check for metal shavings.
Then take your oil pan off and look for a bearing laying in the oil pan, and inspect the rods.

Balance shaft is eliminated so I know it isn't that, for the rod bearing, well I really hope it isn't that because I have to go back down south in 4 days.

Any other opinions?

Cut open the oil filter, and check for metal shavings! You got some knocking going on. Check the crank pully, and make sure the rubber hasn't seperated, that will cause some harsh sounds! Then you could check to make sure its in time, that the valves arent hitting the pistons. Good luck man, hope for the best!!!

Sounds I little more like woody woodpecker in your valve cover and less like a midget with a hammer in your oil pan. More like valve train troubles. Oil filter cut look for shavings, but I would take my valve cover off before my oil pan with that sound.

Don't take the valve cover, or oil pan off untill you check the things I mentioned.

When I drain the oil and remove the oil filter I'll lock for metal shavings. I had already removed the crank pulley to check if the bolt that was missing was causing the noise but nope, everything looks good in the crank sprocket area.

I removed the valve cover before I read these posts, eveything looked good under the VC.

Too late, not a big deal anyways since I have replaced the gasket and VC 3 other times due to powder coating.

Things left to do are:
Drain oil, remove filter and check for metal shavings.
From there I'm assuming I will HAVE TO remove oil pan and inspect up in there.

UPDATE:
I drained the oil and checked the filter and there is no sign of any metallic shavings/flakes or anything. I removed the timing cover as swell and inspected everything, all good.

Decided to put the VC back on and fill her up with oil too crank her up and listen for the sound. So we did and nothin not even a hitch of sound.

Thinking it was a loose water pump pulley because one bolt was just hand tight.

I hope it ain't anything else.

After about 600 miles, the noise still has not returned, I'm crossing my fingers though. I will mark this thread as solved because the problem is gone but unclear as to what the root cause of it was.

Thanks for the help.

Not necessarily on my first GST it was knocking that bad, I put heavier oil in then whatever the previous owner used and it went away for some time. I would say your best bet is to monitor it and not keep your hopes up, that way if it does come back you were ready for it and if it doesn't you get to be pleasantly surprised/

:ohdamn::pray: Well I had just done an oil change the week prior so it had clean oil and the oild I put in it was the same weight. I will definitely keep my ear out for it to come back and I have already began to look for rebuild parts just in case. Bad thing is I'm 500 miles away from home so I hope nothing happens down here:pray:. I'm expecting the worst but hoping for the best:cool:..

Thanks:thumb:
