I bought the full install kist from RRE to put on my 14b and the 7cm gasket they sent me to go between the exahaust manifold and the turbo sucks. It is so hard and thick that it won't seal it. Anyone know where I can get ahold of a better sealing one? Thanks!

It's the standard 7cm gasket that everyone sells, if you buy one from turbotrix, or any other vendor, I'm sure it will be the same.

yea it should seal perfectly. Maybe spray some of that copper gasket maker stuff on there? Not sure if it will help but I never had problems sealing mine.

This is one solution.

We sell these for $15.

A copper one. :confused: Why did you guys decide to start making those?

Ben K,

How well do those copper gaskets hold up?

Permatex Ultra Copper

Use this for every gasket on your exhaust but the head to manifold. I have been using nothing but this on my car and it never leaks, ever. Period.

Manifold -> Turbo
Manifold -> Wastegate
Turbo -> Downpipe
Wastegate -> Dump Tube
Downpipe -> Cat -> Rest of exhaust

Any connection this will seal it up. Never need a gasket again.. When you want to take it appart it comes appart easily and peels off no problem. Then just re-apply to seal and away you go. You can drive 10 minutes after applying it with no worries.

If you goto the track and drop your cat to race with an open downpipe you can use this right after to seal it back up and drive home, no worries. Ever seen what happens to a regular gasket when you undo and squish it a bunch of times while you re-re that piece? It never seals after about the second or third time.

I agree with Jim on this one. I've used the copper stuff all over my car and it has yet to fail me...

Sorry from bringing this thread back from the dead. But can you find the copper RTV gasket maker at home depot or do you have to order online? also, do you have to have a gasket to use this or can you use this in place of the gasket. thanks :thumb:

Learn to read the posts above you. The guy 2 posts up says, I have used ONLY(being the key word) on my car for exhaust. Meaning no gaskets. And you can get it at pepboys, autozone, ect...

Copper or grey for intake manifolds?

Definitely go with the grey. I've never had one leak in about 5 manifolds.
Whats is the difference between grey and copper other than the heat tolerance?

Considering they are both the same price, just wondering. :cool:

Since this is back from the dead, I would like to thank DSMJim for bringing this to my attention. The copper is the shits! I use it all the time now and have had NO leaks at the joints. Never worry about ripping a gasket again. Those midnight tear downs you can do without worrying about the gaskets. Cleans up quick and easy; works better than a gasket.

Ok, now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Thanks Jim :thumb: ,

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I have a a few questions about using this stuff. Particularly between the turbo and manifold. I have a copper gasket that blew out, and now I'm reading about other people that had the same problem. I've also read about the stainless steel ones expanding and breaking the bolts. So this seems like a good alternative. Anyway, on to the questions.

Do you use a really thin layer of it? I'm worried about squeezing it out and getting it sucked into the turbo. And along those same lines, are you supposed to only torque the bolts partially and then let it sit for a while, and then torque them the rest of the way down, or just do it all at once?

I used the copper RTV on mine and it seals great. I put a shit load of it on it though and just bolted it together. I haven't had any problems, but I would just do whatever the package says. I think you put it on and let it sit for a bit, then torque it down. If it sits for a little while it will harden somewhat and not squeeze out when you tighten the bolts.

Hi, my name is Adam, I'm a copper user too.:shhh: But in all seriousness the stuff works great. I'l never waste money on an exhaust related gasket again.

Not to be a dick but oem gaskest are multi layer for a reason. If you can't get those to seal maybe you should have your flanges decked. I have never had a problem with an oem gasket that was the gaskets fault. I have however blown gaskets out because the turbo bolts stretched and kept coming loose.

Who sells an OEM 7 cm gasket? Everyone I see is a copper or ss aftermarket gasket. Will an evo VIII turbo to manifold gasket work?

I don't think an Evo VIII gasket will work b/c I think they are twin scroll. Don't quote me on it though, since I don't own and evo and have never taken one apart.

OEM???? Go to the dealer. You should get a 3 "layered" gasket. It has an inner "core" and is wrapped by 2 thin pieces pinched together.

At least my last one was.

I do not believe my local dealer carries parts for a vehicle that was never sold in the US (evo III), and all of the 1G and 2G gaskets will all be 6 cm as far as I know. What did you ask for to get the OEM 7 cm gasket?

No but with some searching you can find the mitsu part number and have a dealer or jnz tuning order one for you.
