I recently dropped a bolt in the #2 cylinder and turned the engine on for while ( long story made short). I found that half of the bolt was pressed onto the top of the piston. At first i thought it was welded onto it but i recently figured out it was just laying there and could be removed with no difficulty.

Anyways, a good friend and local dsm guru told me that i would need a new piston because that bolt would cause a weakspot and eventually burn through the piston. However, this was before i relaized the bolt could be taken off. What do you guys think? is this piston salvagable. I just rebuilt the entire engine 3,500k miles ago so i dont want to take it apart again. thanks

If money is a problem and you need the car running I'd just file the dents as smooth as possible so you don't pick up hotspots and run that baby.

Money really isnt an issue. I would just hate to take everything aprt again and risk the chance of ####ing something up on a perfect motor.

What do you mean by filing? i have a nice industrial die grinder that i can use. Any suggestions?

i wouldn't trust that piston for very long. if you realy don't want to rebuild it, i guess keep it and just check back on it every once in a while. take pics and compare to see if it looks any different.

but if you can do the rebuild, definately do it.

I would get some emery paper and sand the dents so that they are smooth impressions in the piston. get your shopvac out and run it right by where you are sanding to suck up any shit. Then just pop the head back on and drive that bi***.

You should see the score I have in my #2 cylinder. That cylinder is 2nd highest on compression still, which is really funny. :dsm:

You really should have the head inspected now. You couldve done more damage than you realize. I think the piston is the least of your worrys. I'll bet that there is a nice little crack into the water jacket on the top of the cylinder. The head needs to be stripped down and magni-fluxed. Then go from there.

I have the head at the machine shop right now. it didnt need any combustion chamber reshaping or a resurfacing either. i did however loose 2 intake valves in the process( 1mm overs btw  ).

This is getting on my nerves, i only have 3,500k mile son the engine and now i have to take it apart. i already have a replacement piston that i can use i just dont want to #### anything up. i guess ill just have to bite the dust and remove the mothersucker. thanks for help, wish me luck!
