Need a new 420a engine

I bought my car used and I think the engine is worn. There is lots oil on the tip of my muffler.

Also snoop, have you bought your block from howell? How long did they take to build it?
 
I'm rebuilding the motor myself. I would never trust an engine that I didn't personally build... but thats me. I'm sending my block to the machine shop to get bored, fluxed, and powder coated within the next 2 weeks. I got all this stuff going in it. Its going to rock.

I saw a 420A motor on ebay a couple days ago, and yesterday i saw a 420A engine on 2gnt.com for like 300...
 
my buddy scored a 420a and trans for 300 out of the junk yard. The motor's timing belt broke, so all the valves were screwed. Finding a blown engine isn't hard, their everywhere.

any questions you have just ask...

1st. you need a block and head. you probably have one because you have the car. If you can't afford to not drive it(if its your only car) try to find a block and head from a junk yard.

2nd. Strip the block and head down completely. Its mostly all bolts, so its not that difficult. Then you need to have the block and head checked for cracks, weak points, or any other defects. Just get the phone book out and start calling machine shops.

3rd. You need your internals. Depending on what your going for will determin how much your going to spend. You can spend anywhere from $1000-$10,000. Your going to need new pistons, piston rings, rods, bearings, and seals. Your going to want to get your pistons .020 over bored. This means the pistons are .020" bigger than stock. If you get the same size pistons, chances are they won't seal inside the cylinder walls right. So you get them bigger, and have the cylinder walls bored to match.

There is a lot to it, but its not as hard as you think. Just make sure to have everything checked before you put it in the motor. You wouldn't want to finish your motor, and your crank be just a little off balance.
